Does anyone do public school / homeschool combo?
DH and I have decided to partially homeschool (we do lesson plans and workbooks outside of the set school agenda). That said, how do I incorporate this without overload? DS just started K, loves taking the bus and has made, at least, three new "friends" that he talks about. He is very social and outgoing so I know a classroom was a positive setting for him. Over the summer, we completed several K level math and vocabulary books.
Just looking for some tips to find a balance.

I'm not sure what you mean by homeschool. Are you looking to enrich his studies and still have him go to public school. If that is the case, I personally would not be doing the same type of work they are doing in school. All that is going to do is make your child bored when they teach it in class. I would rather teach something totally different, learn a language, enroll him in a science club, learn geography, learn about space. If he is into language, look at a creative writing course or something like that.

I think this is good advice. Completing work books is not what I consider homeschooling.

Agreed. My daughter is in K and my husband and I are educators. Rather than complete extra academic work, I think it's better to spend time exploring potential interests: dance, music, art, sports teams , etc. IMO those things are better supplemental activities than workbooks because they're having fun, staying active, and they'll developing socially by meeting new people.

I would teach them other skills beyond those taught at school but that will still help them get ahead in the regular subjects: like start baking/cooking (its great to learn how to bake period but baking is measuring/math also), help them learn another language (beyond beneficial), vocabulary (helps reading and writing) this can be done in fun ways, like reading books and having conversations or in games, musical instrument lessons, sports (coordination and physical strength is also very important). I would save the workbooks and "school" type things for what your LO is having some trouble in or needs extra enrichment for.

I've been brought up doing this & fully plan on doing it with DC.
I always did my class work & then 1 hour (30 mins when I was really young) of supplemental stuff (reading & math). When I was older, my parents did higher level math & science & read novels (focus on vocabulary).
