Anyone work in a commission-based field?
I'm leaving my current, commission-based job for a salaried position. My signed contract with my current employer states I will be paid X% commission of "booked" events. They actually only pay us once the event occurs. I am really curious if I am owed my commission on all the future events I booked, based on the language. I'm more curious than anything...

Re: Anyone work in a commission-based field?
Does it say anything like- "payable after event has taken place" or anything to the effect of you having to be with the company on the date the event takes place in order to be paid?

That's where I'm curious - the language states "X% of sales booked by (name)" - not upon completion. But they actually only pay me upon completion. They say one thing and do another....

A lot of times you relinquish rights to the commission once you've left your job. I've been paid commission after I've left and I've not been paid. Also depends on the type of people you work for and what's in the contract regarding leaving the job.

is it listed as commission or bonus on your paycheck? I work 1/2 salary and 1/2 commission, but in my industry, they label it as bonus, even though it's really commission, so once you leave, you forfeit the "commission" because it's really just bonus. Those in my industry who are 100% commission, are entitled to commission earned for 30 days after they leave.

In our "comp plan" contract it states we have to be an employee through Feb 28th of the following year to receive our final payout. Even though the business has already run.

There is NOTHING that states how/when we will be paid - simply that I get X% of booked sales.

I have a similar thing written in my contract too.
I get x% of food & beverage and x% of room rental... but it is payable only after the event is executed, paid in the next paycheck.
I would get clarification but I would say the the event needs to be completed to get paid on it.
