Cervical Mucus VS Mucus Plug
I don't know if I ever really lost my mucus plug with pregnancy #1 because I never went into labor on my own. I ended up being induced at 41wks and really have no memory of what lead up to it. lol.
What does a mucus plug look like?? Thicker CM? Blood in it? How big?
I'm 30wks now and have had so much cervical mucus lately. I know this is normal, but because it's been (what I feel is) a lot, I keep getting worried that it could be the plug and it's way too early for that.
My next appointment with OB is on Friday so I'll definitely ask then. But until then, any BTDT experiences would be helpful.

Re: Cervical Mucus VS Mucus Plug
The mucus plug looks more like thick snot Like when you have a bad cold/sinus infection- the stuff you blow out of your nose!
It is thick and gloppy and can be brown or blood tinged
You'll know if you see it- it doesn't look like regular CM

Ok. This looks like regular CM, like the same sort of thickness you'd get while ovulating. So that's good to hear. It definitely got me worried.

Re: Cervical Mucus VS Mucus Plug
Ok, sorry for TMI, but mine is a lot like an egg white substance (ew. lol). Pretty thick. It does remind me of thick snot too though. I'm sure it's just CM though and not the plug.
Do you know how they'd check to see if it's the plug though? Would have be an internal or sono? Not sure if I want anyone digging around up there at this point. lmao.

They wouldn't check. If you lose it early it regenerates basically. I've never heard of a doctor asking about it. If you're worried about early labor, losing your mucus plug is not really an indicator of labor.
If it's clear/white it's not it.

Ok, awesome. Thanks for the info. I thought it would be an indicator of early labor and that had me a little nervous since I'm still 10 weeks from due date. That's very reassuring.

Just wanted to add that I actually lost pieces of the plug around 31 weeks and didn't deliver until 39. Pregnancy is so panic inducing!!!

Re: Cervical Mucus VS Mucus Plug
You SHOULD have tons of cervical mucus. It's totally normal. And as others have said, you can lose it, and it regenerates. It's also not necessarily indicative of labor. I went into labor early with both of my kids, and never noticed losing my mp.
