20 month old suddenly walking funny and dragging leg..

Hi moms. My 20 month old was perfectly fine before her nap this morning and when she woke up she started limping. Babysitter thought it could have been pins and needles but when it didn't go away she called me. I ended up having her go to the Drs and they did blood and X-rays. The X-ray tech said the X-ray appeared fine but we have a follow up appt first thing tomorrow. She seems to be having the issues on her left pelvis and is almost walking on her tippy toes and dragging her leg a little. I'll be the first to admit I'm a little over the top when it comes to my daughters health and safety and always think the worst. I was just wondering if anyone had any experiences with this in the past ?

Has she recently had a viral infection? Sometimes the virus can settle in the hip joints and cause a (temporary, benign) condition called toxic synovitus. Happened to my son. Freaked me out but it was very short lived. Did they X-ray her hips? What you described sounded a lot like what happened to my son.

My house has unfortunately been infected with pink eye for the past month and my daughter had it twice and she currently has a cold/cough - I just looked up toxic synovitis and it sounds similar so far ! Did you need an antibiotic ??

I think we had a sono to diagnosis it actually, not an X-ray. The sono looks for fluid by the hip joint. it ran its course in a day or two. It's viral though so you wouldn't need antibiotics. From what I recall you CAN treat it with ibuprofen but my ped did not want me to mask it. He wanted me to observe him which I couldn't do if the ibuprofen was masking it. Anyway it went away fast but it was very frightening at the time. I bet you that's what she has!

Thank you - Drs appt today said it was the toxic synovitis. I never even heard of a virus in your joints like that before this ... They're 99% sure they said. Motrin every 6 hours. All blood tests came back ok just waiting on the Lyme test which takes a few more days . Thanks for your help and concern ;)

I came on to write this, lol! synovial joint fluid following a virus...very common actually. I bet you'll see it go away by tomorrow or 2 days the latest!
