growth sono
When do they happen and how important are they? My OB says i won't be having one unless there's a specific concern. I went to a different practice with #1 and did for sure have one (maybe at 37ish weeks??). I'm kind of bothered by this. DH was a 10 pounder & this baby seems so much bigger than DD was - who was 8lb6oz (although I may just be carrying bigger). It freaks me out either way. I'm 30.5wks now so I didn't bother bringing it up at todays appointment but am considering doing so later on. :-/ Anybody else not get a Growth Sono??

Re: growth sono
I was with 2 different practices for each pregnancy. My first, they did not do a growth sono. My second pregnancy I had one done at 32 weeks.

Re: growth sono
No growth Sonia here. My ob said they are basically useless unless looking for a specific issue(fluid etc). Otherwise they may freak you out needlessly ( ie uh oh baby is too small or big when usually they r just fine)

Re: growth sono
Just out of curiosity, will they do a sono later on, if not a growth one around 32 weeks? I'm assuming they have to do one later on to determine whether baby is breach.

Re: growth sono
I only got one with my DD Bc I had low fluid, and now my DS2 Bc my placenta is attached to a fibroid and they want to make sure he's growing ok.

My Ob has always been able to tell if they are head down or not, they felt my belly and always knew. They were always right, so I just assumed that's how they all do it.

I am 29 weeks and was also told I won't need one unless there is a concern. They've never measured my belly either. I would like one, obviously!

I had them biweekly in the 3rd trimester until 36w and then they were weekly. I was high risk.

No, my last sono was the anatomy scan at 18wks and I was told there won't be ANY more at all unless there's a specific concern. But she did feel my belly today to see what position he's in, so I assume she'll be doing that at each visit now

My son was breech and I was able to tell just by feeling. OBs can certainly tell where the baby's head is. My son's head would pop out and I'd know exactly where it is.
When you're in labor, they will do a sono just to confirm baby's position, but that's important even if the baby is head down to make sure the baby's facing the correct way. But growth sono's are not really important because at 32 weeks (or later) the baby can still turn 100 more times!

growth sono
For both pregnancies I only had the 20 week sono. I never had any growth Sonos after that. The dr would just feel around.
