how many do i need? my plan is to breastfeed/pump until about 6 months. i know i should buy it all now just in case, but what do you think i should start with?

Usually, for most moms, it isn't advised to start pumping to save milk until 6 weeks, once your supply evens out and becomes supply and demand driven. You can cause your body to unncessarily produce too much, which although sounds great, really is not fun (leads to clogged ducts, engorgement, mastitis, etc). So you could wait if you follow that approach. If you bottle feed early on you could just pump into bottles.

I'd say buy one box of 50-100 bags. That will definitely hold you over until you figure out what works best for you. I don't recommend the medela pump and store bags. They leak when you defrost them. I like Lansinoh brand. It's an added step because you have to pump into bottles and pour into the bags but they are far better quality IMO.

I too agree with the Lansinoh bags. I had a TON of milk and had to constantly buy bags. I would probably start with 1 box of 100ct and go from there. I have Amazon Prime and used to re-order once I started running low.

Buy a box of 100 and take it from there.
Target brand bags are great. I didn't like the Lansinoh, for me they leaked.

I use nuk bags. I did prior to 6 weeks and I'm very happy with how great my supply is I did have a clogged duct early on and it hurt like a btch!

I bought a box of 100 and just bought another box. I also pump and give bottles when I'm running around. Easier to bottle feed in public for me especially with a 2 year old to boot

I agree on the Target brand ones. I found the Lansinoh ones leaked when I defrosted them. Plus they are cheaper.

Like PP said get either a box of 50 or 100 and go from there. I pumped for over a year and would always get the box of 100 and it lasted a while for me.

Don't forget the breast pads and the lanolin cream.

I third the Target brand bags. They were the best and the least expensive. I started pumping aroung 2 weeks after having DD. I went back to work at 12 weeks and had over 200ox frozen to supplement after I dropped a pumping session in the middle of the day at work. It was pretty tough to go evry 3 hours on the dot. If you are going to pump in the beginning I would nurse as normal and then pump for 10-15 minutes after and store the excess.

i heard the kiinde brand is awesome- they have adapters that attach to all pumps and allow you to pump right into the storage bags- my sister got a pack of 80 of them for like $15

I went through literally hundreds of bags. DD was exclusively breast/pump fed for a year and I had an oversupply since I pumped while she was in the nicu for so long. I loved the Lansinoh bags and I used so Nuk bags as well. I plan to use the same this time around but I may also look into target ones as I'm sure they're less expensive.

I never used a ton of bags since I only produced a little more than he needed on a daily basis so I would not go crazy buying a million bags. I actually gave my sister all my leftover bags when I finished pumping in June.
