Bath time - time to have fun or time to behave?
2 DDs, age 3.5 and age 19 months.
When I bathe them together, they get a little wild. They're just having fun with bath toys, splashing, etc. Sometimes my little one will jump up and throw water and say "it's raining!"
It's all fun, but it's not fun in the moment when I'm trying to wash them and getting soaked. And then I get annoyed.
Am I just being grumpy? Should I just let them have fun and splash all over the place?

My girls are around the same age and act the same- they LOVE taking a bath together. Its good "clean" fun and so I say just let them enjoy it. However, I definitely have days where I am NOT in the mood and/or am rushing and cut their "bath time" short- or tell them not to splash all over- i try not to do that though and realize its my own crankiness that's coming through. As long as they aren't flooding the bathroom I say let them at it!

My son knows, and he's just two, but he knows -- you can splash and have fun and have a BALL in that tub but if you dare splash ME or get water out of the tub and onto the floor there is trouble.
He can have fun but with limitations. And I'm also very strict about standing up but that's just because I'm afraid he is going to slip and fall right on his tuccus. So, I always say no standing.

My boys are 5.5 and 3.5. Here's how we do it. They get in, I lather them both up, rinse them off, then it's playtime. It works for us because I get the washing out of the way quickly so then they can just have fun. We do have rules though, that they are very aware of:
No splashing in each other's face
No splashing out of the tub
No splashing me unless they ask first and I say it's ok
No standing

DD is 3 and bath time is fun time. I mean, she knows not to splash me, but she can do whatever else.
I took over bath time from DH (he's with her during the day). He was all business in there and I know how much fun kids have in the bath. So, now I do after we eat dinner.

I feel your pain. I hate bath time because of the splashing. Something about it drives me nuts. Probably because hours later I'll step in the one wet spot I missed on the floor and get my sock wet. I can't stand wet socks!
Anyway, we stopped doing baths together and they're much calmer when they are in separately.

I let my 17 month old DS have fun. I want him to feel comfortable in the water so we practice blowing bubbles and going under the water. I try to get him to lay down and kick his legs. The only rules I have are the water stays in the tub and no standing. I usually let him play for 5-10 minutes and then I wash him and drain the tub. When we're in a rush, I let him play for like 2 minutes and then wash him.

It all depends on my mood.
Most of the time DS will splash and play, but if I am in a bad mood, he's in washed and out.
DD is another story - she doesn't want to take baths anymore all she wants are showers and it takes her forever to get washed in there.

Splashing is okay as long as water stays in the tub. Definitely no standing or jumping. Other than that I let her play for a little while but once I'm ready to wash her up she needs to cooperate. Thankfully dd is pretty calm in the tub and I recently tried putting the lo in with her and they did well together. Hopefully that lasts.

Exactly this...and the 10 stitches in my chin are exactly why there's no standing in the tub!

I allow them to have toys and some fun - but since it's before bedtime, we don't usually have a lot of time.
I bathe the boys separately - we've tried a couple of times to do it together (6 and 2) but they get way too crazy and - I probably am grumpy at that point of the evening.
Of course, now I'm feeling a little guilty...

I have a 1.5yo and a 2.5yo and I bathe them together
I let them play around and splash. I wash them as soon as we get in the tub so they can play afterwards
There is no standing or jumping - if they dont listen its time to come out immediately
I also let them splash, but if it gets to the point that I am getting soaked (or the bathroom is getting soaked) i tell them to stop splashing so hard.

DD is 3.5 and she has fun in the bath as long as she doesn't get the water all over the place and there is no standing up in the tub allowed.

I agree. I wash her down, rinse her and let her play for about 10 min and then out we go. DH takes fffooooorrreeevvveeerr!! It messes up my whole routine.

Playing and splashing in the tub are fine- no jumping, standing or splashing outside of the tub--Dd knows if I get wet play time is over and she starts asking for her towel.

I was my son's hair first and then let him play (since that's the hardest for me and the part he tries to protest). Once that's done I let him play freely (no standing or touching the handle/faucet, then give him a quick wash before getting out.

When they were younger and took baths it was soap, shampoo, etc first then they can have some fun. No standing or splashing in the face, but other than that they had some toys to play with. They liked the letters most of all.
Now they are 6 and 4 and take showers so really no time to play. Plus, by the time it's shower time it's already getting late after a long day of school, HW, soccer practice, some play time, dinner, etc.
They still like to run around and play a bit, but a lot more toned down.

My two DC take baths together usually, but they get much wilder than when they take solo baths.
We let them play for a little while, but only after the work of getting clean is out of the way.
I hate bath time. Trying to corral two toddlers in one tub and not get seriously hurt is exhausting.
