Car seat safety
I had a heated discussion this evening with a friend and need to know what you ladies think... In terms of car seats...infant, rear facing, forward facing. NOT boosters. Do you install Latch only, seat belt only, or both?

Re: Car seat safety
I thought it was one or the other? I thought you aren't supposed to use both-
My little guy is rear facing and I installed the seat with the latch only- those clips that attach to the metal bars between the upright cushion and the butt cushion of the cars sears. Car seat inspector guy said I did a great job-?

Both are completely safe one at a time, never together.
We install with latch b/c DH generally does the installing and he prefers it. Once our DD's are over the weight limit for latch, we'll use the seatbelt.

The reasoning behind not using both is - each way of installing causes the seat to seat to react in a certain way in a crash. If the seat is installed with both then it will not react like it should and could under-react or over-react.
The way I explain it to parents is this - you can either wear contacts or glasses. They both help you see when worn by themselves. If you wear them together it doesn't help you see better, it actually makes things worse.

You're correct. Unless you're installing with the lower anchors in the center - then it may not be. Most vehicles don't allow for the lower anchors to be used in the center.

It's one or the other and from what I understand the latch can only be used to carton weight limit and then you have to use seatbelt only

Re: Car seat safety
Only one or the other, but keep in mind that the latch has a weight limit.

Not completely true- the Clek Foonf and Nuna Pipa allow you to install using BOTH the Latch & seatbelt.
