Winter Coat?

Hi. I'm due at the end of January. Not sure what to do about a winter jacket. I'm wearing a lighter jacket these days that I can't zipper anymore. I hate to spend the money on a maternity winter coat or even a larger sized coat is a waste of money. I have a 1960s-style swing coat at home that I tried on and my belly sticks through and separates the two sides (there's only 3 buttons on the coat and the bottom is meant to open and "swing"), so that won't work. I was thinking of a knit poncho or something like that. What is everyone else doing?

Something like this could work! I like that it has a couple of buttons and a hood.

I'd invest in a winter coat. I delivered my first in late January and got plenty of use out of my maternity winter coat. Then I used it again for my second pregnancy. And I'll pass it down to my sister when she needs it. Best $50 spent. Try Old Navy.

Re: Winter Coat?

eh, I just let it sit open. My first was due in March so I went through the entire winter with my normal winter coat, which I was able to button until the very end and at that point I just didn't care since I wasn't outside all that much anyhow. This time around I'm due in the beginning of December so I'm even less inclined to buy a new one. I just don't see the point in buying things that don't get much use. If I were planning on many pregnancies then it would be worth it for me, but I'm not, so I'd rather buy as little maternity stuff as I can.

Winter Coat?

My good friend's birth coach told her not to keep her jacket open in the winter because the baby will move towards the spine for warmth and that's how people end up with painful back labor. It may just be a theory but it's enough information for me to invest in a warm winter coat.

Re: Winter Coat?

I am due mid-January and decided to bite the bullet and purchase a winter coat. I got a relatively inexpensive one from Old Navy which I just went to find a link for, but it's gone now. I didn't want to spend the money either, but I just didn't get one that was TOO big so I can get a little use out of it at least afterwards.

Re: Winter Coat?

With dd1, I got one at motherhood on sale for about $50. It had two zippers - one at at each hip so you could widen it or wear it slim. Even though dd was born mid-December I was glad to have a roomy jacket post-partum (I had a c-section, and so some roominess was appreciated!). It was cheaply made however; zipper broke and it was a lot of $ to replace so I got rid of the coat. This reminds me I need to buy one for dc2, due late December!

Winter Coat?

I ordered a maternity puffer from Walmart for the weekends and it was around $20. I got it yesterday it's cute and warm. Can't go wrong.

I definitely think it's a must have. You're due in January when it's freezing plus it's no guarantee that you will fit into your pre-pregnancy stuff right after giving birth and you want to be warm and comfortable.

I actually saw ONE at Kohls the other day. Probably someone returned it. What about trying Savers? OR just getting something cape-ish?

I actually found a cute one at H&M. There was a coupon code yesterday, that is not there today.

I was due at the end of January last year and I just wore my coat open, but I don't spend much time outside. If you commute or spend time outside other than walking to the car, I would get one. As for after the birth, I think I left the house only a handful of times the whole winter and that was to take the baby to doctors appointments. I was able to close my regular coat at that point.

I just got one exactly like this over the weekend...I am due in just 5 weeks. I have worn it 3 times and already it's been worth the $$! I can't stand being cold and want to be comfy above all else.

Motherhood Maternity outwear is 30% off right now.

I did the same and I was due in March. If I really needed to I could have zipped it but pregnancy made me very warm.

Winter Coat?

My regular cost fit (zipped) my entire pregnant. I was due in April and wore it more or less until then - it was a cold winter. Days I didn't wear it, I wore my north face fleece which also fit.
