I was in a wedding party in Dec. last year and of the 10 bridesmaids, at least half chose to wear stockings. I don't think it's as much of a faux pas as LIF thinks. And for what it is worth, I do think it makes a difference in keeping warm (albeit a small one).
I guarantee that half of the bridal party is not getting any action on a regular basis.

i knew it was a faux pas loooong before i was on LIF 
and i'm by no means a fashionista!

The one I find is tbe MOST sheer and barely detectable on your leg is No Nonsense Almost Bare
You can get it in Stop n Shop and most drugstores.
