Normally you use whomever your attorney selects.

Title insurance company recommendations
I just had my attorney do it. They just disclose that you can choose whoever so you can shop for cost. The title company was Allstate Abstract in green lawn. It was done within a day or 2 I believe? I have not a clue how much it was maybe $700? It just gets included with closing

Title insurance company recommendations
I left a message for the attorney asking what company they are using to do title search about a week ago but haven't heard back. We did tell the attorney we wanted to get title insurance. I understand we can buy title insurance at closing but is there is anything we have to do before closing to be sure it gets done during closing. Going to reach out to the attorney again. Thanks!

Re: Title insurance company recommendations
Your attorney should be doing that for you. If you are getting a mortgage you must have title insurance. If you are paying cash, you should still get it. Your attorney y probably already ordered the title once you signed the contract.

Thanks! again, your attorney should have a title company and this is normally part of the closing process that they should be taking care of on your behalf. Now I will say that your attorney should respond to you faster than one week. That is troubling to me. Either an attorney or the paralegal should reply by the next day. I would call the paralegal assigned to your case.

Re: Title insurance company recommendations
Spoke with the attorney last night and she said that she is done with title search and there is nothing else we need to do prior to closing. I should have asked to speak with the para legal when I called before who would have been more accessible I guess. Thanks everyone.

Re: Title insurance company recommendations
Yes, the buyer doesn't normally select the title company. The buyer's attorney chooses a title company that they have a relationship with, for the most part. So you didn't miss out on the opportunity to make that choice.
It's actually a good thing that your attorney has ordered title and everything is already reviewed and in place. Some attorneys wait until the 11th hour to order title and then sometimes an issue crops up when everyone is ready to close and things get delayed. There is nothing more frustrating.
I very much appreciate it when an attorney orders title as soon as we get into contract.
Good luck with your purchase/closing.
