Sleeping on my back

I keep waking up on my back so I'm assuming I'm still sleeping on it. I also lay on my back to watch TV at night. I heard that you'd feel light headed before any damage is done to the baby and I've not felt that. Is this true?

I have never heard that sleeping on your back is harmful to the baby. I have heard that it might make you lightheaded. I asked my doctor and he said it's fine as long as you are comfortable.

Sleeping on my back

My OB said I should stop sleeping on my back once I hit 20 weeks. The reason she gave is the weight of the uterus can compress the vena cava, disturbing blood flow to the baby and leave me either dizzy or short of breath. I don't like it and always wake up on my back but I'm trying to train myself to stay on my side as much as possible. I also heard that same thing --- certain positions will be uncomfortable before you do any harm to your baby.

I also take prenatal yoga and the yoga instructor makes sure we are never flat on our backs for the same reason--we are always propped up. Maybe try propping yourself up when you are watching TV?

Re: Sleeping on my back

The thing I find funny about this is who our ancestors not to sleep on their back? I get the concern over it and I try really hard not to (but I am naturally a back sleeper) but I wonder if it's really that big of a deal. I think your body would make you move if it were a problem. Still, I'll listen to the recommendations and stay on my side, as much as me and my hips hate it!

Sleeping on my back

By the end of my pregnancy, I'd wake up on my back every single day.

Sleeping on my back

I'm normally a side/stomach sleeper. When I started getting bigger I was only comfortable sleeping on my back so I would and occasionally I'd try to sleep on my side. Now that I'm a few weeks out when I sleep on my back I get a pain in my lower stomach so I move to my side and feel better. My doctor never told me I couldn't sleep on my back and I only recently stopped cause I was getting the pain.

I wake up constantly on my back. Like most of you, that's how I'm most comfortable. I always switch to my side, but who knows how long I was like that to begin with!

Re: Sleeping on my back

My ob said not to worry about it, that your body will get uncomfortable if you need to move. At 25 weeks I still wake up on my back at night sometimes, I usually do turn Bc it's stuck in my head that I should, but for some reason that seems to be a very comfortable position for me this go around.

Sleeping on my back

If you wake up that way and aren't uncomfortable it's fine. I am 28w and can no longer lay flat. I thought I was going to pass out after getting my brows waxed. And the ohpther night my toddler insisted I Kay in my living floor with her, I got very dizzy.

Re: Sleeping on my back

Even at 17 weeks I feel very lightheaded if I lay on my back... which breaks my heart. I'm a back or stomach sleeper. The pregnancy pillow is the only thing that makes me even remotely comfortable.

Sleeping on my back

I'd wake up sometimes on my back, which is weird bc I'm a side sleeper. I would just roll to my side.
