Job hunting ... again - DOE teachers come in!
I am just finishing a maternity leave that I have been in since September. I knew going into it that chances were I would not be staying once it was over because there are no available jobs in my school.
So it's ending and I am unemployed. They want me to sub, but I do not really want to commute from Long Island to Queens to sub.
Anyone here know of any schools in the DOE (prefer Queens) with any openings? Leave replacements? I am elementary certified.

She is the leave replacement and the classroom teacher is returning.
I was a perm sub for five years and had four long term leaves. I actually had one short term and one long term leave outside of my certification area. I'm not sure what it's like at other school districts, but perm subs were the first ones to get leaves in our district. They pay was very low, but I loved my building and got a lot of experience. It may be worth it to look into a perm sub position.

Typically leave replacements go to the school's top subs. I would advise to sub at that school and maybe ask the principal to recommend other schools in the area you could sub in as well (principals talk). If they want you to continue to sub I would do it. A great recommendation from a principal can go a long way to securing a job for next year.
