I was skipping through channels and stopped at CNN. I don't know who it was but a political figure from another state (a state that said no to any refugees)!was commenting. He said, We are at war. We need to do what it takes to keep the American people safe. I agree with him.
I don't think these people understand how legal immigration and free movement within a country works.
Also, state governors do not have the power to do this.

Re: What Americans thought of Jewish Refugees before WW2
I'm very torn on this subject. One part of me says No Way. We need to keep ourselves safe before saving others. Self preservation maybe.
But then the other part thinks of the people who are suffering and just need our help. Families. Children. I start to think of "no room at the in " And wonder what is the best thing to do here.
even though I'm torn - the thought of those bastards sneaking in with the refugees scares the shit out of me. Are there already plenty of terrorists here? Most likely yes. So what would adding another few do? If it means saving thousands of innocent lives...
My rational human , do anything to protect myself and my loves ones says - no. Unless they can be monitored 100000% - no. Don't allow it.

No they don't have the power, but they could make it hostile enough that people would never feel welcome

We already lost 3,000 of our sons, daughters, and loved ones on 9/11. I think for now, we have done our share. I have children in this world and want them to make it to adulthood in one piece.

This is me right now. My heart breaks for all those innocent people who are being run out of their homes and are scared and lost.
If they can be screened and monitored to the fullest extent than I am for it. Otherwise, I have to bow my head and say no, it just seems like a huge trap somehow.
GOD, the state of the world right now makes me so anxious and nervous.

What Americans thought of Jewish Refugees before WW2
Initially, the day the Paris attack happened, I was agreeing with everyone who is saying not to let refugees in and that we need to keep our homeland safe.
But, the more I thought about it, the more I realized that these poor syrian people; the mothers, the children (many whom are orphans), and the good men deserve a chance too.
Terrorists will get here if they want to; whether we let refugees in or not. Many are already here and probably planning things we couldn't even dream of in an attempt to destroy us.
If we deny these refugees and they are sent back home, many will most likely join ISIS or be forced to do their bidding. How does that help the US? In my opinion, now is not the time to turn away these people, fueling more hatred towards America, and leading many of them straight into the arms of the people we are trying to eliminate.
Fear is dangerous.

Re: What Americans thought of Jewish Refugees before WW2
Everyone in the Paris attack who has been identified has been EU citizens. It doesn't mean that a terrorist couldn't pose as a refugee but it's important, I think, to know that these people were not refugees.
Were Syrian refugees involved?

Do you have children? Do you live in the NYC area? We don't need to agree. No one on this thread said refugees= terrorists. The concern is these people will not be properly checked. How can the gov't do checks on these people coming from war torn countries?

It doesn't matter if I have children, nor does it matter if I live in NYC. Please don't use the you don't have children, so you don't understand card. You do not know my situation.
And I am from NY.

I have children and I live inthe NYC area. I am married to a vet and I am the daughter of a veteran. I also lost a close friend on 9/11. Refugees do not equal terrorists. Muslim does not equal terrorist. It is disgusting to assume that these people who are fleeing horror that we cannot imagine are terrorists simply because they have had the misfortune of living in a specific country. Don't let fear take away your humanity. And I agree that the vast majority of people who want the US to take care of their own, are the same people who have problems with welfare and universal healthcare.

I'm not saying send them away. Be gone!!! I don't care
I am saying I am scared. I am scared for my family
I am saying I want to do anything to protect them
Why does that make me disgusting and have zero respect for humanity.
It is amazing if someone can not be in fear. If that makes you a better person than me than so be it
But it is what I am. I am Afraid.

And all those Syrian refugees feel the same about their children.

Re: What Americans thought of Jewish Refugees before WW2
I am afraid too but I will try my hardest to not let it stop me from living a full life nor will I let it turn me into someone who purposely disregards the needs of other people. Their needs are real and pressing. You don't know if you are in immediate danger. Right now, I am living a comfortable middle class lifestyle under the protection of a stable government. I try to not take that advantage for granted. Logically it doesn't make sense to turn away thousands of people on the chance that maybe a few of them intend us harm. Also, consider that our own people have been caught joining Isis and al Quada. Our own people have turned against us in the past. Plus, as someone earlier stated, it is very difficult to get through the refugee process in comparison to getting a tourist visa.

What Americans thought of Jewish Refugees before WW2
saw this on my facebook and it sums up my feelings,
If there was a bowl of 10,000 M&Ms and you were told that 10 of them might be poisoned and kill you instantly, would you grab a handful and eat them? No??? How come, most of them are ok. You still say no??? Then why the hell would you be willing to let 10,000 refugees into the USA??? Unfortunately, they are coming from a country has some "poisoned peopled" in it and we can't look into their background throughly enough to verify that they are safe, because the information DOESN'T EXIST!!!!

The difference now is, we are dealing with Terrorists who are out to kill thousands, millions, a whole country. We do not know if any of these Syrians were turned by ISIS. Now is not the time to put our country in this much jeopardy.
It's unfortunate for the kids, and for the adults that are good people, but for once we have to come first, our safety, our children, our lives!!

This is my feelings exactly. Everyone is nervous about letting people in (rightfully so in any situation) but I do feel that we need to help the innocent people that are running for their lives. I read an interesting Time article about the screening process. It made me feel much more comfortable about the whole process.

We are all entitled to our opinions but I can't compare chocolate candies (I don't like M&Ms so I'd pass on them for a different chocolate candy anyways) to people's lives. I know it's just being used as a comparison but I don't think it's a fair one to make.

Re: What Americans thought of Jewish Refugees before WW2
and this is why I thank God everyday I wake up that I am an American citizen who was born and raised in this country. We are so beyond lucky to have what we have.
A lot of people have really lost touch of what it is like to not have been brought up in the amazing conditions that we are in this country, especially women.
I cannot imagine letting my child just start to walk away from me alone at a young age to go to another country because that is my BEST OPTION at that moment in time.
