Low AMH

I just learned that my AMH is very low less than 1 although my OB didn't give me the exact number. I have been having irregular periods for the first time which caused me to go to the dr. in the first place. My OB is suggesting if I want another child to go to an RE ASAP. I'm 37 years old. My FSH level (although it was mid cycle was 7).

Although we want another child, I am hesitant to begin fertility treatment. I am not sure I can handle the emotional and/or physical toll it can take on you.

Has anyone with a low AMH defied the odds by getting pregnant naturally?

i have no real advice, except to say that if you're 37 and the AMH is under a 1, that means you do not have many eggs left. although honestly, its not a fool proof method of determining that.

if your FSH is good then you might be ok doing iVF to stimulate and get some good eggs out of it.

I have had my AMH checked 4 times since June.

My FSH is about the same as yours.
I personally don't trust the AMH because it should be the same no mater what cycle day it is tested on and mine hasn't.
I just started injections for my first IVF cycle yesterday. So far so good. Much easier to do than what I made up in my mind. I already have a 3 year old I conceived naturally but really want another. I feel like I need to atleast give it a shot and see what happens so I don't wonder "what if". I had all the same fears as you but just decided after 4 failed IUI to go for it. I can't imagine I'll end up regretting it.

my AMH was a 3 when they tested. my FSH was a 6.7. Im 36 (I'll be 37 in Jan.) The dr. said on paper my #'s were really pretty. But AMH number is not an exact science. and they didnt get very good eggs from me the first time.

If your FSH was super high, I would say that IVF might not work in conjunction with that AMH. But your FSH is low so thats good. It means you should respond to ovarian stimulation.

What are your estrogen levels when they tested your FSH? If your estrogen is high, it will show a lower FSH inaccurately. AMH is not a perfect science and while some drs believe its a set number and tells how low your reserve is, so many women have gotten their amh taken multiple times with all different numbers.
My first amh was .28 when I was 30. Very low and I have a low AFC so I knew my chances of conceiving were very poor. My FSH looked low on paper but my esyrogen always ranges very high so it was technically on the high end. Second time it was taken a year later was .79.
Both my IVFs failed, even with a higher number. It was last taken in April of 2014 and it was .36. I ended up pregnant naturally the following month and had my DD in Jan.

So this is what I was told by my last RE (I consulted with every one on LI except for RMA lol)
- amh is not a proven science. They believe it is accurate with testing your reserve but not your quality. Your age will tell that but that also does not mean you can not have a heathy pregnancy. All you need is one egg.
- girls with endo have hormone changes so often AMH is inaccurate with them and can fluctuate with your FSH. Acupuncture, DHEA and high doses of antioxidants have been known to improve these numbers.
- many Drs believe amh is more of an indicator on how successful IVF will be. I never responded with even the highest doses of Stims.
I basically have a very poor amh and was still able to have a baby but it was not easy by any means. It's still possible.

Last time it was checked was over 3 years ago. It was .03. I just had my 3rd baby 4 months ago. My first child was a one shot deal, no meds, my second was a failed IVF cycle converted to an IUI, my 3rd was conceived on clomid. Don't let the number freak you too much. There are many other factors to fertility.

My Amh was 0.01. Yup. Can't get lower then that but had to have help. Alotbof help to have ds

Hearing information like that is mind numbing. Take some time to think about it, do research.

For me the thought of doing IF treatments was much much scarier than the actual procedure itself. Honestly at 37 and with that info I wouldn't discredit IF treatments.
