infection in gum from bad root canal/failed apico?

I was wondering if anyone had to deal with an infection in the gum after a root canal gone bad on a crowned tooth, even after an apicoectomy? Did you have to get an implant done? How successful was it and did the infection return after the implant was done?

I had a 10 year old root canal and crown that got infected. I honestly can't remember if it was redone recently or just came out of nowhere. It was so painful and I needed several rounds of strong antibiotics along with a lot of visits to an endodontist before it finally passed for good. I don't have an implant, just a new crown on the tooth.

I would recommend a lot of strong probiotics bc even worse than the tooth infection was the horrible stomach issues I battled for months after all those antibiotics.
