Just diagnosed with PCOS
Hello all :) I am new to the site and figured this was the best board for me to post on. I have had inconsistent periods for the past 5 years, and went to the gyn yesterday and she told me that she thinks i have PCOS and that b/c i am not ovulating correctly or at all that when DH and I decide to have children we will prob need meds. I am still in shock and hurt over this news. I went today to have blood tests done so she can check my insulin, glucose levels, prolactive levels, etc. She said if any of them are off them maybe she can give me meds for that to see if that will help regulate me. I am also charting and taking my temp with the basil thermometer. Me and DH werent going to start trying till next june, and then when i was so inconsistent we decided not to wait that long and were thinking january. But being that my gyn seems to think we will have a tough time without meds and wants to start me in clomid as soon as we start trying, we may try in oct or nov, b/c we would like to try natural before going on meds. However if i see i am not getting pregnant then i will def start the clomid. So basically i am wondering if i do go the clomid route, what are the chances that it helps you to get pregnant (and ovulate) has anyone had good experinces with it?
PS- Missy, if your reading this please dont mention this to your family as i am not telling too many people i know till we figure out what we are going to do. Thanks :)

Re: Just diagnosed with PCOS
I was also recently diagnosed with PCOS. First I suggest after you are diagnosed seeing an RE not just your gyn as they are more "experts" on the subject. Second, you might want to consider Metformin before jumping right into Clomid. Metformin can help your body regulate so you ovulate on your own. Other changes like diet can really make a difference!
Just did Metformin and had my first period on my own about 2 weeks ago. Read up on PCOS before jumping into Clomid.
Best of luck - there are a few of us PCOS ladies here! You will get through this!

Re: Just diagnosed with PCOS
I've been on metformin for years, even when I wasn't ttc. Within a couple of months of taking it, my cycles got back to normal and I conceived a little surprise a few years ago. Unfortunately, we lost the baby due to other complications in the 2nd trimester, but like others mentioned, definitely go to an RE. I see Dr. Brenner and he's by the book, but he's great. To help speed things along this time, I've been doing clomid along with the metformin. Good Luck!
