1 year old check up
Did you have to do a urine collection at your child's 1 year visit? A friend just told me her ped has the parents attach a bag in the baby's diaper to collect urine. I thought she was joking at first.
Is this really done?

We did not
DD's first urine test with a well visit wasn't until her 5 year old well visit actually

They did that at DS's second appt, but he didn't pee so they didn't take a specimen.

My dd is 3, and the only time urine was ever collected was when a uti was suspected when she had a high fever once with a high WBC count. Not yet at a well child visit. Blood was collected at the one-year. I'm pretty sure that's when they test for lead.

I don't remember which appointments, but we have been asked to do this occasionally. They put the bag in the diaper at the beginning of the visit and hope she pees before we leave.

Just standard practice in his office. I don't know exactly what they are checking the urine for.

No. Dd is nearly two and we have never had to collect a urine specimen.
