Does anyone have a great OB &/or Midwife they could recommend that delivers at South Nassau?
I am a new mom-to-be and in my first trimester. From what I've heard South Nassau seems like a great option for delivery. I could use some help and direction on highly recommended OB's as well as Midwives that deliver at South Nassau.
TIA!!!

Just wondering why you chose South Nassau? I go to a great midwife that delivers at Winthrop.

It was actually between Winthrop and South Nassau for me. South Nassau so far seems to have more of what I am personally looking for. The plus is they are 10 minutes away from me and my husband as well as both of our families. Being able to have my hospital close to family puts my mind at ease. I haven't completely decided between the two, however I am leaning more and more towards South Nassau. I am open to any suggestions for OBs/Midwives at both hospitals. I've been having a hard time though finding anyone for South Nassau.

Ohh I see. I live a few blocks from South Nassau but delivered at Winthrop because I wanted to deliver at a hospital with a level 3 NICU that can handle anything in case of an emergency. (South Nassau has a small level 2 NICU). Just something else to think about/consider!! I go to Melanie Sumersille, she's a midwife in Garden City. The OB in her practice (Plancher) is also highly recommended by a lot of people.

Crashing. There are no midwives in South Nassau. I know SN is prettier, but I would pick Winthrop any day. They have a great midwife on staff, and the NICU is top of the line...SN will send babies to other hospitals if they have an issue that cannot be treated by their basic NICU. Mom would stay in South Nassau. No one wants to need the NICU, but being in a different location from your baby would be heartbreaking.

I had all three of my kids (last one was delivered about 5 months ago) at South Nassau with Horizon OB/GYN - Dr. Oh and Dr. Tomlinson. If you have specific questions, feel free to FM me. My first DS was a NICU baby and did great in their NICU. I love the practice and would use them again if I were to have a fourth (though I'm not planning to have anymore!).

Re: Does anyone have a great OB &/or Midwife they could recommend that delivers at South Nassau?
I delivered son 1 at south nassau and son2 at winthrop. Both were born via c/s and in respiratory distress. Both spent 4 days in the nicu. Son 2 got much better care at winthrop. After our experience at winthrop we really realized that son1 could have been cared for much better. He should have been put on cpap machine and was not (for example)
I know pp recommended dr dean, who delievered son1 and who i switched from for son2 because he did not treat my condition (cholestasis) well at all and should have placed me on different meds that would have helped me and protected baby better. I also had to practically dx myself
