TDAP Vaccine Poll
I have my appointment for the TDAP vaccine tomorrow and I am still so torn on whether to get it now or after I deliver. My OBGYN is no help, she isn't swaying me in either direction. I also just met with our pediatrician and she said do whatever I think is best. So I am just curious what the consensus is of other LI moms are out there! I know there's been a recent case of whopping cough in my area so that leans me towards getting it now. But I double guess and give second thoughts to everything regarding the baby.

Re: TDAP Vaccine Poll
Current recommendation is to get it while pregnant so you pass on the protection to your baby. If you get it after you give birth, the baby is not protected at all. This has recently changed so those who gave birth a few years ago will have gotten it after giving birth. I got in the third trimester as did my husband.

Why are you hesitant on getting it while pregnant?

TDAP Vaccine Poll
There's a few reasons why I am hesitating, but I am sure they are more to me over-thinking and worrying than being logical...1) I have allergic reactions to certain medications and am fearful I would have one while pregnant 2) since it has only been recommended by the CDC in the last few years, I question if enough research has been done to deem it safe in pregnancy? I just wish my Dr would have told me I had to get it and not leave it up to me.

If you've never had a reaction to this vaccine before, then I wouldn't worry. I'd get it.

Re: TDAP Vaccine Poll
As the mother of a son who contracted whooping cough at 3.5wks old, I would highly recommend getting it while pregnant. If there's even the slightest chance of passing on some immunity to the baby, that would be reason enough for me. I was only offered it after delivery

Same. OB recommended getting it now so I can pass on immunity to baby. I had no reaction to it aside from a sore arm from the injection.

My advice is to get it while you are pregnant so that some immunity passes to the baby. You want to do all you can to protect your baby in the first 2 months. After having my baby in the hospital at 11 days old and having to see her go through being poked countless times and having a spinal tap I strongly recommend doing whatever you can to keep your baby safe and healthy!
