How do we feel about using a name that a family member has also used?

Two years before we had our son my cousin named her son "our name", it's a family name for DH and I and my cousin also happened to like it. We aren't super close but we see them here or there, we used the name, I would only change for a close relative who I see all the time.

I see both sides. No one can "own" a name, but if it's a name you love just use it. we also learned the hard way not to share names... Everyone had an opinion. My mom tried to convince us to use family names. All very old names... We told her she had 3 chances to use these names and not to push these names on us.

I feel like there are no rules when it comes to names. People get very possessive of names but you can't own a name.

How do we feel about using a name that a family member has also used?

I would use whatver name that I loved. At one point on my father's side of the family there were 13 people named Nicholas. So go for it!
