Childcare at the gym
How is it generally? I have a 1 year old and the gym I'm thinking of joining offers it but the daycare has 1 girl in it. I can't imagine how she really watches the little ones. My little guy isn't one to sit in his stroller either. He'll want to be entertained and running around. Do you think 1 is too young??? Any experiences?

Childcare at the gym
My sister takes her two DDs to hers. She's been taking the little one since she was 5-6 months old. She tends to go during off times. After school is a zoo. She also complains to corporate whenever she feels like the kids are not adequately supervised. It has actually caused some beneficial changes.

Re: Childcare at the gym
The babysitting at our gym is fantastic! They are all older women and there are 2-4 in there at any given time.

Childcare at the gym
I joined a gym because of the babysitting - I would not go to the gym without DH and we needed someone to watch the boys. My kids were not great in the service, but the women never even gave them a chance - they're supposed to call your phone after 15 minutes if the kids are crying, but the latest I ever received a phone call was 3 minutes after drop off. My kids do not go to daycare, so they're not used to being in a place with strangers - I wanted to give it some time, but they would never get used to it if they were only able to be there 1-3 minutes at a time. I started taking them at 6 months and 2 years. I did not care for the babysitters- they were older women, but not very friendly. I cited them as the reason when I cancelled my membership.

Re: Childcare at the gym
I used a very popular place, but only once DD was almost 2 & didn't need much supervision.
That said, the supervision was not great. DD wasn't a crier, but she was potty trained young & they ignored her bathroom requests (she clearly stated pee pee).
I'd love rejoin a gym now, but I would not leave a 7 month with strangers.

Re: Childcare at the gym
I started bringing my son when he was 3 months old. it saved my life. it was equinox and the day care was very nice and I always trusted the girls that worked there. In fact, some of them ended up babysitting for me later on. If it's a good gym and it's clean I think it's fine. Ours didn't have toys with small parts so I wasn't worried about choking or anything like that.

Childcare at the gym
I think this varies hugely from gym to gym. I didn't do it until my kids were about two, I didn't feel comfortable until then. At certain times, weekend mornings for example, I couldn't imagine that the amount of kids in there was legal. They don't seem to have to follow state ratios like a real daycare would.

It depends on the gym. I didn't bring my DD until she was in her 2's and more self sufficient. The girls in my gym don't really do much with the kids.

Re: Childcare at the gym
Ive been taking my LO since they were 6mths. They are now 6 and 7 The girls were great. I went at a not busy time when they were little and usually they were the only ones there or very few kids. I found going at nap time and leaving the baby in the stroller worked well when they were little

Re: Childcare at the gym
I don't have kids but my gym has one.. and everytime I see the girl who is supposed to be in there with the kids, she's at the door chatting with the other girl at the reception desk. I wouldn't be taking my kid. FWIW, they all seem to be in their late teens, early twenties.
