Tick bite
My 4 year old dd was using the potty when she found a tick on her. My mom pulled it and and put peroxide on it and a white thing came out. She said it wasn't blown up, like it just attached itself. Do I need to bring to the ped or call or just keep an eye on it? I've never come across a tick or been bit myself so wasn't sure if this was a thing I needed to call my ped about or just a wait and see watch kind of thing? Thanks!

Do you still have the tick? I think you can get it tested.

Re: Tick bite
Definitely go to the ped! If you still have the tick, put it in a ziplock bag in the freezer and bring it with you. I just got bit last week and it was carrying lyme. Sometimes it can take up to 2 years to see the effect from a tick bite. You don't want to run that risk :(
Chances are they'll do some bloodwork and prescibe and antibiotic just in case. Good luck!!!

Re: Tick bite
My girls have all been bitten by ticks and the pediatrician will only treat if symptoms present. They won't even test the tick. I did read that you could have it done privately but you need to pay for it.

Re: Tick bite
Ours does test and treat. It may depend on area. I'm out east, and it is a huge problem here.

Tick bite
This just happened to us the other day. I knew for a fact it had been on my child for five hours or less. When I pulled it out it hardly offered any resistance. I swabbed the area with rubbing alcohol, did a full body check and called my ped. He said that we would really only need to worry had the tick been affixed more than 24 hours. Since I'd flushed the tick down the still-flushing toilet right after I discovered it, there was nothing to save and the ped didn't even mention it.
Call your ped for more guidance. Any idea how long the tick was attached?

Re: Tick bite
White stuff could be from the peroxide it tends to bubble.

Re: Tick bite
I found a tick on my DC. Dr said not to bother testing the tick, instead he ordered blood test for my dc. It came back positive for Lyme and we had to do a long cycle of antibiotics. Never had any symptoms

Tick bite
I called the ped the other day and spoke to the nurse, she said I'm probably fine, they don't need to see her and they wouldn't just prescribe and antibiotic without symptoms. She said to set my calendar for 6 weeks as that is usually when symptoms presents itself. If she's acting weird, flu like symptoms to bring her in and they will do the blood work. She said given the fact it wasn't fat and came out easily it probably wasn't on long. I tend to agree, she was at pre-school playing out back which is kind of woodsy and I think she picked it up there. When she got home she went to the bathroom and I think it may have been on the outside of her pants and when she pulled them up it got on the inside of her pants. She was just recently potty trained (she took forever) and my mom said she went again about 45 minutes later and that's when she noticed it and asked my mom what it was. She had a slight melt down when my mom tried to pull it out. I actually had an appt for my other daughter on Sat and the ped took a peek and didn't see any redness or rash so I'm holding out that she is good! Thanks for all the advice!
