Please tell me who you used, what type of panels they install and if you would recommend who you used?! I will take any other info too. Looking only to buy our panel, not leasing and no Vivant please!

TIA

We bought/own our own panels. We've had a great experience with them. As for the details,I'll ask dh and get back to you.

We purchased ours and they were installed last week. Process was fairly painless. We used Green Logic and panels were manufactured by SunPower. If you'd like, I can PM their contact information.

We have considered it many times, but I keep hearing horror stories about the town coming to inspect them and hitting people up with fines for structures and changes they made without a CO. We have an above ground pool so I'm afraid they will make us take it down.

We used them too. I wouldn't recommend them. Jmho.

The savings however has made up for the headaches.

Re: who has gone solar?

BabyBoy and I used SuNation. I've had their panels for 7 years, with no issues. SunPower panels. I've recommended them to several people. They get awards every year for customer service.

Anyone look into or have any concerns about raditation? we have a split level, our master is like an attic with the slanted ceilings, this is starting to concern me now.

We have SunPower panels that were installed by Sunation. We couldn't be happier. We bought the panels. Our finance charge is less than what we were paying monthly. The interest rate is low we were ok with financing.

What type of radiation would there be? The panels just take solar energy, convert it to electricity, then move that around the house. All houses get solar radiation, and all (just about) have electricity running throughout the house already. Panels wouldn't add any radiation. Also, the panels produce DC current, which produces almost no EMF radiation (unlike AC in electrical outlets).
The inverter does emit some EMF radiation, but less than a laptop (because of distance to your body), or almost any other electrical device.

The fact that you are reading this now (on any device, even a smartphone), you're getting more radiation than you would from your solar panel inverters.

Actually, with the solar panels on your roof, you'll get less radiation in your bedroom than without them, since the panels will absorb all of the visible light radiation, and some of the stray X-ray radiation that we occasionally get from solar flares.

Re: who has gone solar?

Not to Hijack the post, but if I am not entirely sure if we are going to stay in our house, would it make sense to purchase panels?

I couldnt take them with me if we were to sell and purchase another house - correct? Because my "new" house may need a different set/amount?

Buying panels adds value to your home.
If you own them, you just make sure you pay it off when you close your home. Heck, hopefully even profit a few bucks because they will be free and clear and they will get the rest of your warranty.

You seriously are amazing! You know everything! Thank you!
It was the EMF from the inverters we were worried about. We will likely go with a central inverter rather than microinverters just to make us more comfortable.

http://www.safety.com/articles/are-solar-panels-safe
Use quality components. Almost every documented case of fire caused by defective solar panels has occurred in cheap, off-brand equipment.

I don't know the year of the article, but any electrical device has the potential to start a fire. Refrigerators, microwaves, stoves, TVs, smart phones, even sneakers (saw a recent news story about light-up sneakers catching on fire... didn't verify if it actually happened, though)

As far as wiring up an electrical device to your house, they are safe, but there is always some risk.

We pay 106 a month but it would really depend on the amount of panels.

My mistake! SunPower by EmPower is the only local company where your panels are installed by SunPower.

who has gone solar?

Hi everyone, this is my first post! My wife has had an account for years and was telling me about this thread so I had make an account for myself. I'm in the solar industry so I thought I could possibly be helpful. Because the industry is growing so fast there is an abundance of info out there and it can all be very overwhelming. Everyone can and will tell your their success or horror story (Horror is few and far between) and everyone will tell you the way you should go solar and who you need to use. Well, it's different for everyone so u need to figure out the best opttion for YOUR household. You really don't want to lease. It just doesn't make sense in the Northeast. So you are left with purchase or PPA. Again, both are good options depending on your situation and if you really take the time to understand both options. Most people have no idea what a PPA is nor what is actually involved with owning panels. The guy sitting at Home Depot or the mall does not have all the answers. Also, just because a company does a satellite image of your home doesn't mean you won't qualify. It means they are lazy and they won't qualify you. You want someone that will come out to the house first before discussing number of panels or savings or anything. Number of panels will vary by size of home, amount of shade, and how much electricity you currently consume from PSEG. There is no right or wrong number. This is very individualized. Please feel free to message me for any more info. The most important thing is one way or another, just go green.
