Telling work advice

I am 16 weeks and have not told my job yet. I'm reluctant for a few reasons:

1) I just returned from 6 months maternity leave in September.

2) I have a lot responsibility and hold a leadership position on the team which just complicates stuff.

3) It's mostly related to point one above. I guess I am afraid they'll think I'm not really in it being I had back to back pregnancies. It's very rare in my industry. Most women have 1 kid and much later in life (late 30's - 40's).

4) This was a surprise pregnancy and even though I've embraced it I just feel differentry about it. Like of course I'm excited to meet and love the little baby within but it just wasn't part of my plan and I guess in some ways I'm not as excited as I was with #1. I feel like that makes me sound terrible but it's just the truth. I guess I'm just more anxious/nervous than purely excited if that makes sense.

I know waiting just makes it worse. It's like a bandaid especially because it's only fair I give enough time to plan accordingly. I'm just not in the mood to discuss it with these people.

Ugh I guess this was a vent. But any advice or encouragement would be great.

Well like you said- waiting doesn't make it any easier- you're still going to be due at the same time. That being said, wait until you're ready. You don't have to do it right now. Personally I'd try to do it by 20 weeks but it's really whenever you're ready. Good luck!!

ETA: You can also look at it this way- you were out on maternity leave recently so they've BTDT and probably have a plan in place from the last time. You're entitled this time- it's your body, your life, you can't really get penalized for this.

I know what you mean about being nervous. We never planned to have kids and right after I just started a new job we found out I was pregnant. I just told my mgr and he just announced it to the senior mgr this week. I think the earlier they know the better. I think it looks better on your part if you tell them sooner than later so they can prepare for when you are out on maternity

I know what you mean. At least you are on a team. For my job, I was the only one who knew my job so it really complicated things when I went out. I was out for about 6 months with my twins (my dr pulled me out of work at 24 weeks) and then I had 12 weeks maternity once they were born.

I came back to work in February and got pregnant again in August. We were not planning it. I was so scared to tell them I was going out again. I didn't tell them until I was close to 20 weeks pregnant. They were shocked! Honestly they were so much supportive than I imagined. And they all laughed saying are you sure you want to be home with 3 little ones while on maternity (I had 12 weeks). Lol.

I skipped back to work after my leave ended. Was so happy to return. It will be fine. Don't worry.
