School district spinoff
Does anyone know how the NYC schools compare to the island in terms of CSE services? I am in district 26 (bayside) which has been the highest performing district in the entire city since forever, but I have a son with ASD who will likely need a contained class next year and was wondering how NYC compares. From what I understand all special Ed is its own district (75) regardless of geographic location. Thanks in advance!

Re: School district spinoff
I am in district 25 and my twins will be entering k in September. One will be in ICT and one in SC. This is in our local public school. All public schools should be able to offer ICT and self contained (although it is possible to have mixed grades). In the SC class this year it was K-2 and next year will be K-1. Just depends how many kids need it each year.
Yes there is district 75 as well if there is a place you want to send your son. Both of my sons have IEPs but are not district 75 so no, not all special Ed is district 75.
I can't really say about LI, but all I have heard from anyone is how lucky we are to be in NYC and how we get so many more services than LI. Special Ed is funded and I believe a priority in the schools as every school now must offer a placement for a child through CSE. This is part of the whole Least Restrictive Environment. This changed in 2013 when yes, special Ed was only in district 75. After doing research Board of Ed figured out that most special needs kids do better with General Ed hence the change.
Of course, for certain kids they have more severe needs where a district 75 placement is appropriate. I went to several transition meetings for my kids, met with the school psychologist, took a tour of my local school (I wanted to see how their k classes would be) so I felt comfortable with the placement for each of them for kindergarten.
Hope this helps. Feel free to fm.
