ASD - School Districts
MY DD is 5 and we are currently in Queens. We are looking to move to Long Island in the next couple of years. What school districts are the best for special needs? I have heard Plainedge, any others?
Also, what town in Plainedge is good? When I do a search Port Jefferson comes up. What parts of Port Jeff are more desirable?

It really depends on what type of special need. Some are great with ABA, some are great with related services. If I would to list a few it would be Half Hollow Hills, Commack and Three Village but every district has strengths and weaknesses. Port Jeff is not one that would come to mind t move to for special needs. I would look into the school districts you are interested in and take a look at the complete district as a whole. Take a look and the budget and finances as if the district is struggling, special ed is the first to go. Good luck!!

Plainedge is Nassau County, right near Massapequa.
I have heard good things about Half Hollow Hills, Commack, and Three Village, as KarenK said. Lindenhurst has a good ABA program as well.

There is a very well respected advocate that is on some facebook special needs boards that i'm on and she always recommends Commack and Half Hollow Hills.

I live in Plainedge (Bethpage) and we love it. I don't have a child with ASD but I am a special education teacher who works with kids who have ASD for 9 years. Feel free to fm me.

Re: ASD - School Districts
My niece is in Plainedge and has ASD. My sister could not be any happier. They truly are unbelievable when it comes to special needs. I'm in Massapequa but almost wish I was in Plainedge.
