Managing morning sickness

Anyone have tips for managing morning sickness? For the most part I'm ok, more nauseous in the mornings but fine by like 12. I'm sure it's going to get worse from what I've read and with twins on board who knows! Anyways, right now I find EVERYTHING to be aversive except bagels, OJ, French fries, cola, and bacon. Literally the only things I can even have a thought about eating, but I know what's not the best diet, but everything else I can't even fathom eating. I've been chewing gum, and keeping up with my probiotics which seem to help but I know I need to eat a better diet. I read in What To Expect that you should focus on eating what you can for now, then worry about diet when your feeling better, is that the general guideline? I don't want to blimp up from bagels but I know I need to eat.

I lived off bagels and cinnamon raison toast for weeks. All I could eat was carbs. Just eat what you can, in a few weeks you'll be back to normal. Try ginger for nausea (ale, hard candies), Preggie pops were good too, you can also try Seabands.

Yes! I sleep with the sea bands on and when I first wake up, I'm good. Then hunger strikes and its down hill. I'm just going to try and wear them all the time. I've been doing lemon seltzer. I love seltzer. For some reason the Gingerale was causing me to go to the bathroom frequently not sure if it's all the sugar? But I may get ginger candies. I remember seeing them in whole foods. I know there is ginger gum as well I'm going to pick up. I'll look up the preggo pops! Good to know that I'm not the only one who can just eat bagels!!!

Re: Managing morning sickness

Nothing helped for me. I suffered from all day sickness from 5 weeks until 15 weeks. It got so bad that my OB prescribed Zofran and even that did nothing for me! The only things I could tolerate were carbs (pasta, bagels, fries), McDonalds, California rolls, and hot dogs. I ate like absolute crap for the first trimester until my MS went away. I did gain a little weight, but now that the morning sickness has passed and I'm able to eat normally again, I'm actually losing a little weight again, so it's evening out.

I would just eat whatever you can stomach. Don't worry about whether it's healthy or not. Just try to get food into your body - the hungrier I was the sicker I felt. And most importantly...DRINK lots of fluids.

I lived on Pizza. I also finally had to take Zorfran to be able to get out the door and get to work. But even with that I got sick at work, in my car, at a funeral - you name it I got sick there.

I carried bags with me just in case (a tip a co-worker taught me). I found freezer size zip locks worked best.

But yes eat what you can now and IMO worry about it after the pregnancy. You will lose the weight after.

Re: Managing morning sickness

my first pregnancy with DD1 I ended up gaining 12lbs my first trimester. I only wanted carbs. Protein made me sick so I ate pasta, pasta salad, macaroni and cheese, macaroni salad, potato chips, and bagels with butter.... Everyday for 6 weeks!
Once I hit 13 weeks I started to feel a lot better and craved healthy foods because my body missed them. I only gained 4lbs my second trimester.
So I say it evened out.

Only thing that worked for me was zofran. I took it the entire pregnancy. There were times I swore I was dying.

The only thing I could keep down in the beginning were apples and pickles. The sight of water made me puke. Eat/drink what you can!

My doctor told me to eat whatever I could and keep taking my prenatal vitamins. I lived off bagels, saltines, and ginger ale until about 13 weeks. I also found that chewing minty gum or sucking on peppermint helped- particularly when I got nauseous from a smell-'yay for riding the subway! Chat Icon

ETA: but at least take some solace that morning sickness is a GOOD sign of a healthy pregnancy! Chat Icon

I ate a lot of carbs. Sucking on jolly ranchers helped too. I bought ginger chews which helped a great deal. My doctor also prescribed me digelgis which is the prescription unisom b12 combo. It seemed to help a bit.

I just got the preggy pops and the chews and B- natal my RE recommended. One chew kept the nausea at bay for a few hours.
