Re: How much do you spend...
About $600, but we always have at least 25 kids, and it's always at a Kiddie place.

Re: How much do you spend...
We usually have big kid party out both my girls have September birthdays so we do joint parties with all family friends. I budget $1,000. It's totally ridiculous.
I am thinking of doing pool party this year or I like the idea of a weekend away to celebrate.

Re: How much do you spend...
since DS 3rd bday when he started to understand the concept, I've had offsite parties..ice cream place, painting place etc.
his 3rd bday i had in bklyn so most o fmy family could attend. there was 20 adults /10 kids and at a pizza place in park slope. Probably ran me $800+ b/c it was 20 bucks a person regardless of age. cake, favors, etc. tax / gratuity.
but after that I had it local to me (in PA) and spend less. He will be 7 this year and wants a bounce U party. for 20 kids with food and stuff their price is almost $450.
I think thats fairly reasonable for 20 kids, food, cake, etc.

Re: How much do you spend...
I live in NC and have done at home parties and parties out of the house (3 kids) and spend about $500. Last year my oldest had a sleepover with 10 girls and that has been the cheapest party so far so she got to choose a bigger present-She got an AG doll and we took her and a friend to lunch at AG.

How much do you spend...
This year got a little crazy. I rented a movie screen for the backyard $200 (includes tip), waitress with tip $180, food $190 with tip (just pizza and salad), $100 on plates and goodybags, $100 on beer and chips, $100 on desert. We decided against any presents for him, hes 2 and he got MORE then enough. I think $750 is usually by budget soup to nuts including gifts for kids parties.

Re: How much do you spend...
I think the least I ever spent was $400, the most was $900 on a kids party. I also always have the immediate family over for dinner and cake which is usually another $200-300. Their gifts are between $100-150. after a few years if expensive parties, I have now stopped with the friends bday parties and we do a trip instead. I will also let them do something small with 1-2 friends like Billy Beez or a movie.

Depends. One year I did a bounce place. Spent $650 just on that. One year we took him into the city, lego store, TRU, spent about the same. Never more than 1000. I've done house parties and after all Saud and done it all comes out the same.

Re: How much do you spend...
I spent $200 on favors alone for DS's 1st birthday. Going over the #'s, it was probably a little over 1k for a back yard party with the entertainment and everything. How does everyone here manage to keep the costs so low?

Re: How much do you spend...
We spend $500-$1000 depending on the venue and what kids are into.
I think our laser tag party this year came out to $800 before favors and cake so probably around $1000.
Other DS's party was at the house and I got a deal on an animal entertainer who did an excellent job. Entertainer was $200. Did have better food, cake and favors. Total cost was probably $750ish. Also paid someone $200 to work the party, serve food and clean up.

Re: How much do you spend...
It really depends I think the cheapest for a party was $400 but we've had some big parties close to $800.
This year we wanted something small and affordable for my youngest since we are leaving on a big vacation. We just did a gymnastics party. We had 12 kids the whole party including tips was $490. Her gift we spent close to $250 but she wanted an American girl doll so that was over $100 for just that. Than we had a family party I don't usually add that up but if I had to guess $200 with food and party stuff.

Re: How much do you spend...
After DS1's 1st bday, I made the commitment to have a good budget for each bday but I just can't seem to stick with it. DS1 is 3 and I'm still spending way more than the budget I had in mind. It's not only the cost of the place where u have the bday, but the customized cake, favors, balloons, parties extras like face painting, etc. All adds up very, very quickly, at least 600 or more Hopefully next yr, I'll stick to a budget. Btw did I mention, DS2 turns 1 this August Oh and DH does not see the bill, it's top secret from him!

Are these parties you are all throwing being done like this EVERY year? Or are you choosing one or two milestone years? Because quite frankly...I find these numbers ridiculous if its every year.

Parties are expensive, there's almost no getting around it.
My parties have ranged from $300 to $1200. I just had my DS's birthday party in my house and I think it cost me about $400. It would have cost the same if I had it out.

TBH I budget $1000 a kid for bdays. Parties, presents, day of cake and dinner, outfits, professional pics etc. I never had that stuff as a kid and I love doing it for my LOs.

We do "big" parties for DC every other year. Since they are 3 years apart, it winds up alternating nicely. Their even years 10, 12, 14, 16, are their big years.
Luckily for us, and apparently most kids, they are much happier just having a sleep-over with video games, pizza, and snacks all night. That's what 13yo DS had this year, and at least three of his close friends did the exact same thing. Minimal cost, minimal work on the parents' part, and the kids have just as much fun, if not more, than the $$ party places.

I did NOTHING for her until age 6 when she asked to have a friends party.
Before that it was pizza and cake in the yard with immediate family only.
I don't believe in big expensive parties that are over in a few hours. The money is better spent going into her college fund or taking a trip that we can get something out of.
Especially when they are too young to understand or remember like age 1, 2, 3 etc.

I'm probably a little bit of a cheapie, but I don't spend more than $40 for a gift. DD and DS get SO MUCH from their aunts, uncles, and grandparents, I don't want to add much more to the madness. And I only do a party with immediate family, so maybe $200 for food, drinks, and decorations.

Exactly. If I do a house party, we're 25-30 people. JuSt family. By the time I food shop, stock my bar it adds up.

We do a party every year. But it is one of the only gatherings we have every year and invite everyone. So it is his birthday, but also a chance to get all friends and family together that we haven't seen all year. And it is mid Sept, so it is a nice end of summer BBQ. Last year was the first year we had a party out and I missed the party we have always had before.

Same here-my oldest didn't have a friends party until she asked for it at 3. DS had his first at 6, and my youngest was 4.

I have done every year. As a kid my parents didn't have a lot, and we aren't rolling, but we love getting both our families together, all our friends kids, and making it a huge celebration. My oldest is stuck with a birthday during christmas so we do a party in January and make it all about him. My youngest has a summer birthday so we spend the money and do a big party here. We like having everyone over, and we only do that once a summer.
