swimming pools ??
is salt water pool better/ worse than chlorine?
how much does it cost a yr to maintain an inground pool?
anyyy info would be helpful. thank you

Salt water is better on the skin and swimsuits. The maintenance is easy once it's up and running. I throw the vacuum in once a week, add water and use a dipstick to make sure everything is balanced. The electric and gas(we have a gas heater) is $$ but we absolutely love it and it makes our summers feel like staycations!

The salt generator turns into chlorine. And as another poster mentioned, it tends to be gentler on the skin. The salt you add to the water is cheaper than chlorine.
As for maintenance, we have a small 18' round Intex pool with a saltwater generator, but we have our water tested weekly at a pool supply store because it doesn't take much for it to get out of wack. The chlorine can get high and become an irritant. We have a lot of direct sun, so we sometimes have to add a stabilizer. We used to do the dipsticks, but we found it to be much easier (and more accurate) to just visit the pool store and they tell us what we need to do or add (if needed.)
We're in the planning stages of installing an inground pool and we intend to have a PH & Chlorine control unit (along with salt chlorine generator).

My parents converted to salt water a few years ago and maintenance has been so, so much easier. In the past it was always a battle to keep it balanced but with the salt water, it's even crystal clear when they pull the cover off to open it and it stays that way all season.

on my chlorine pool-- my yearly maintenance isnt bad - $500 or so to open (with vacuum and chemicals), $300 or so to close, $100-200 on chems per season.
we have an automatic cleaner so that was a 1x $1000 investment (totally worth it)
my problem now is that the pool is 15+_ years old and ive had to replace:
pumps (few hundred $)
pipes ($1700 -- was given estimates as high as 6500)
cover $2000
chlorinator - i think $200 ?

Saw a house that has a saltwater pool. Unfortunately the house is 2 BLOCKS too far for my husband.

We have a salt water pool and love it. I don't have that chlorine smell, and the chemicals are less expensive.

Lol house sold instantly. Of course it did. Probably 80k above ask. All cash.
At this point I can't do anything but sit back and laugh. Punching walls isn't effective.
