Possible Catfish situation
Hi I was wondering if anyone knew of a private investogator who might be able to find out a person's true identity. I think my friend might be being catfished. She's been talking to someone online for years and anytime they plan to meet something always "comes up." Not sure if there is a service besides the TV show who might be able to help but I figured this would be the best place to ask.
Thank you!

You can do most of the work yourself. If you watch the show they tell you all the ways they search.

Yes she does, she's tried googling pictures, reverse telephone number. The area code checks out as a Cali one where he says he's from but thats all we've been able to find. No fb account or other social media. She does not send money

Anything that's been going on for "years" and has only ever been online is weird. Has she at least Skyped or Facetimed?

He's probably married, and uses a throwaway phone, and a fake name. Why doesn't she just stop talking to him? Waste of time!

I was going to say this. If you have to hire a PI or do all this work to find out about someone, they aren't worth it. Period.

It's been YEARS she's talking to this guy?? And something always comes up? Why is she still talking to him? Why spend the money on a PI? He's obviously hiding something and what would she gain from knowing? Just drop him and move on already.

It doesn't have to be something sinister. Maybe the other person is horribly ugly or disabled and embarrassed if he shows his true self she'll cut him off. Maybe he's disabled and their relationship is what keeps him going.
If she's invested this much time I would feel like she's does too and try to get to he bottom of it as well!

It's been years. Whatever the reason, she's being misled. Even if a person feels they are undesirable to the other person for whatever reason it doesn't excuse them from this type of behavior and from misleading others. They should have come clean years ago.
She doesn't need to hire someone. She can say it's been a long time and if you don't want to meet i'm done.

Exactly. Because let's say she does hire someone. And pays money to find out, yeah he is who he says he is. Then what? He still won't meet. So where is this even going?

Re: Possible Catfish situation
At this point she knows something is very wrong with the situation and everything is a lie but needs closure to move on. She's invested a lot of time in this person and disclosed a lot of personal information so she wants to get to the bottom of who she has been speaking to. Whenever she calls him he almost always picks up the phone. But always an excuse as to why they cant Skype or video chat. I've told her to just let it go but she says she needs to know and can't have this hanging over her head for the rest of her life.

Does she give this person $$$. Has she put her dating life 100% on hold because of it?
