Re: the housing situation in Farmingville
Just curious what everyone thinks of the way Levy is being portrayed in regards to the illegal immigrants in Brookhaven....
Saw this on the News12 website -
Suffolk County executive accuses news reporters of being ‘careless and out of touch’ (07/11/05) HAUPPAUGE - Two Suffolk lawmakers, usually at political odds, stood together Monday and accused news reporters of being "careless and out of touch."
A rundown home on Woodmont Place in Farmingville was closed down last month, leaving dozens of undocumented Latino men homeless. Now, Suffolk Executive Steve Levy says he's been portrayed as someone who's trying to target members of the Latino community.
Joseph Caracappa, the Republican presiding officer of the Suffolk Legislature, and Levy say the media hasn't fairly covered attempts to get rid of illegal housing and has not told the whole story.
Some Suffolk residents have come out in support of Levy's evictions. The landlord of the Farmingville home is facing criminal charges and Levy says he'll help towns go after any landlord breaking the law.
Personally, I agree with Levy and feel that these landlords should be stopped. What does anyone expect him to do, just let landlords keep cramming houses with illegal's...and what about the neighborhood's that these homes are in? It's a little unfair to taxpayer's to have to live among that.

Re: Re: the housing situation in Farmingville
what bothers me so much is that they are evicting the illegal immigrants, but not DEPORTING them...that burns me up
ANd the WHole Day Laborers thing is out of control...
They are a lot of illegal immigrants who get picked up by landscapers, contractors, etc and get Paid CASH...the people who use them for work are just as guilty...
Its totally disgusting to go past the 7-11 in Southampton and see the garbage and crap that is left out by the day laborer people..as well as 50-100 guys just hanging out on the fences, corners, grass, etc...

I agree, what I don't understand is the Latino "leader's" attacking Levy and at the same time say nothing about the illegal situation!!! Like it's okay for them to be here. They should be deported!!!
BTW, I also agree that the business owners are just as bad, they just add to the situation.
It just makes me wonder why the government doesn't do more to control these situations instead of letting it get out of hand like it is now.

I understand what youre saying, but fact is fact and they are here ILLEGALY. Im ot saying they should be deported in the middle of the night, but what worries me is that there are people in this country that simply have NO Accountability. Theyre not even recognized as being here, and i'm sure that if they plotted something, people would be screaming for the Law, but since theyre staying on the DL, its considered OK to just dust it under the rug

Its not their home, to begin with the rent beds in homes. the showed one house in the attic it had 26 beds that owner was renting out for 200-300 a month, with sheets separating the beds. They have fair notice, you come to this country illegally and we catch your a s s you should be deported. End of story. Most of these people take the money they make and send it back to their countries were they have nice houses. My mom used to work with some when she worked in restaruants and she said how they would all talk about the nice houses they have in their countries. They come here work for 10yrs then go back to thier country and live like kings.

Well, when MY tax dollars are feeding them and their families, I have a problem with this. And Honestly, My dad runs a business in Southampton, he hires legal people with a green card or social security card, he pays high business taxes, puts his employes on payroll, etc...
So, while they are PEOPLE, they are not law-abiding, tax-paying citizens, and THAT is where I have a problem.

Yes, they are human beings, and they know the difference from right and wrong and they knew the way they were living was illegal and that what happened was bound to happen eventually. They are illegal immigrants and should not be in this country, should we now shelter and feed them, who are not supposed to be here while thousands of US Citizens go hungry, are homeless?? They should have been immediately deported!! JMO

Thats being a little extreme, dont ya think? I believe in freedom, but with freedom comes laws and accountability.
Do you abide by the law? I do... and i believe that everyone else should as well. They are here Illegally. And the law is what it is for a reason. like i said, had they committed some sort of terrorists act, i think it'd be safe to say taht you;d be singing a different song, but b/c all they did was break some "minor" law in your opinion, it should be overlooked.

I would be HAPPY to point these out to Steve Levy---No problems AT ALL....NONE. Nobody said they are against people being Free. We pay taxes...if someone Illegal has a baby in the US, that child becomes a citizen...my tax dollars are paying for that person, yet their parents are NOT paying the taxes to reimburse us....Get it?

We do live in America The Land Of the Free!!!!!!!!!!!!!
And when our families came here, they had to wait in quarantine for days, then go through all kinds of paperwork and then learn a new language.
Yes, we are the land of the free, but is that supposed to mean that anyone can just come and take advantage.
I wonder how you would feel if one of those houses was next to you and there were 60 or 70 men milling around at all hours....
Not to mention that why should our tax money go to give illegal immigrants shelter!? People who have paid taxes and lost jobs have a hard enough time getting help...now we should give it to those who give nothing.

I guess what I am really trying to say is that I think for the most part none of us have really had the need to go live in another Country(Just Visit) So how can we judge what their reasoning is I mean it can;t just be about the taxes we pay)

its not just about the tax dollars.
there are LEGAL ways to come here, and there are illegal ways ('the quicker way'). Im sorry, but i refuse to have a bleeding heart for anyone who breaks the law- then WHERE do you draw the line?

Re: Re: the housing situation in Farmingville
My ancestors came from Poland and had to go through Ellis Island, Etc to get to America...and they had to learn the language too...
I just feel no sympathy for people who sneak into this country...
And, how would you like it if you lived next door to a house rented out to 30-40 illegal people, whose cars were parked all over your road, people hanging out in front of your property, cars coming and going all day and all night? I doubt you would be happy, and I am SURE yhou would contact your congressperson to report this...

I have to agree. i feel that most people who condone this, do so on the premise that its not Their Next door Neighbor. "Its ok... as long as *I* dont have to deal with it."

Well, I just think the whole illegal immigrant thing is crazy at this point. And it's not just on LI, it's everywhere. This is the U.S.A., where we welcome you with open arms and allow you to become part of our country...with all of it's freedom's and some of it's problems. WE DON'T welcome you here to leech off the system and send money to another country so you can leave when you are ready!!!!
Sorry to have started this whole debate....
Now I am going to catch some
