Potty Training Boy

DS is 26 months and has started to express an interest in the potty. He has told us a few times when he has to go "pee-pee on the potty" but he hasn't gone yet. So here are my questions...

1. What age did you begin potty training your DS?
2. Did you get a small potty or use the real toilet?
3. Did you potty train DS standing up or sitting down?
4. When you started potty training did you switch/use pull ups?

I'm sure I'll have more questions once I really begin potty training, but I'm hoping someone can give me a direction to start in!

Re: Potty Training Boy

My son was on the later side but bc he had no interest whatsoever and I didn't want to push it. Never a bad age to start, especially if he is showing interest

We had a small
Potty but he never used it. Went straight to big but prob bc he saw his sister. I would get a small
Potty

Sitting down

I never did pull ups. I think my method is odd but worked for my daughter so we just stuck. We did diapers and set a timer. Diaper on diaper off. Then just went to undies after 2 weeks. But I think most use pull ups

Re: Potty Training Boy

1. What age did you begin potty training your DS? a month before 3rd bday
2. Did you get a small potty or use the real toilet? small potty (summer infant brand)-- we bring this thing with us in the car when we go out-- so handy
3. Did you potty train DS standing up or sitting down? sitting down but he has peed standing up a few times so he can do it
4. When you started potty training did you switch/use pull ups? Yes but honestly I don't think it makes much difference between that & a diaper... the reason I haven't gone to underwear full time is that he still won't poop in the potty ever so I had to throw out his underwear every time he poops in them... I gave up on that really fast

26 months.
I did it over 3 days... A modified 3 day method.
We used a potty and trained sitting down.
No more diapers during days (I used diapers at night).
No pull ups... Just underwear.

We tried starting training at 28 months---didn't work. Tried again at 32 months and didn't work. So we waited until a little after 3.

We did the 3 day method---no pull ups at all--and we're done in 2.5 days. Nights took slightly longer--maybe another 2 weeks.

My son didn't like the little potty. He went right to big potty. He also didn't like the potty seat. He prefers to sit on regular seat. He stands to pee. We tried getting him to sit but he preferred to stand.

Good luck!

Re: Potty Training Boy

Trained ds at 25 months. We used the potty seat that goes on the regular toilet. We trained sitting down (always hold down the penis lol). He just now at 29 months is starting to try standing up on a step stool (since he pees standing outside by the pool all summer). We still wear diapers at night time and nap time because they are more absorbent than pull ups. He only wore underwear while training unless we were leaving the house. After a few weeks we started doing short car trips and errands in underwear but I always had a small potty in the back of my truck when he woud tell me he had to go right away. Plus he was scared of some public toilets for a while do having the potty in the car was very helpful

DS is also 26 months and we experienced the same interest, although he would actually use the potty every so often to pee. About 2 weeks ago I decided to give it a try using the three day method. We got pee down no problem, but he still wont poop on the potty. I pretty much gave up, and keep him in a pullup. He always tells me when he has to pee and we go to the potty (minus one accident he had last week), but he continues to poop in the pullup. Im not pushing him anymore and i just let it go.

So to answer your questions...
I started training him at 26 months
we use the real potty...i dont want to clean up a small potty and worry that they then need to adjust to the big potty (although we do have a small seat on our toilet for him for pooping which we got for dd)
we taught him standing (based on the advice of our daycare)

1. We didn't really "start" training him. We had a potty for a long time but he was always afraid to sit on it. Sometime after 2.5 yo he became less afraid so we'd put him on it before baths.

2. Real toilet seat with a potty seat on top.

3. Sitting down.

4. He basically learned to go potty at day care. One day he asked to wear underwear, so I put him in them and we never looked back. He was 34 months old. We had him in Pull-ups at night for a few weeks, but he was always dry so we just did underwear all the time.

I firmly believe when they're ready, it's easy. I didn't pressure him to train before he was ready. He's 3.5 yo now and I can could on 1 hand the number of accidents he's had. All at night.
