GMC Acadia rear facing tether

According to google it looks like it is tethered to the track of the front seat. I never had a seat with a rear facing tether

Thank you! That's what we figured and it worked. We did that with our last car too.

Are you sure the top tether is required/recommended for your rear facing car seat? I've never heard of a rear facing seat to use one. Typically tethers are for when the seat is in forward facing mode. Have you checked your car seat manual?

I looked at the manual and it has nothing about a top tether location for rear facing seats. You might be able to put the seat in the 3rd row and use the tethers from the second row but I'm not sure if that's allowed. Most seats don't need or allow for tethering while rear facing.

Lower tether. and yes it is recommended for rear facing.

Thanks. Should have specified lower tether.

It's rare. From CSFTL:

If your seat allows tethering rear facing (Peg Perego, Combi, and Diono allow tethering rear facing, as well as Clek only if there is a dedicated rear facing tether anchor) and your car has no restrictions against it, it is a parental decision to tether or not. In the United States it’s never required (all seats pass stringent safety testing rear facing without a tether), and some seats have the option of an anti-rebound bar rather than a rear facing tether.
Britax used to allow tethering rear facing, but on January 28, 2015 (for their ClickTight convertibles) and over the summertime 2015 (for their G4.1 convertibles) it was phased out. If you own an older Britax that allows for tethering rear facing you may choose to use the tether while rear facing, unless there are restrictions from the vehicle. If you have a Britax car seat that was made since these dates, it will not allow tethering rear facing. There are manuals available online showing how to tether a Britax rear facing, and they were accurate at the time, but since this changed during 2015, it is essential to follow the manual that comes with your seat.

Gotcha! The anchor then. Looks like if you have buckets in the 2nd row, they're in each seat. If you have the bench in the middle, they're in the outboard seats. I don't see any in the third row.

That was very thorough lol. It's the britax advocate G3. It was dd1s first before the click tight one existed. Dd1 just went into the pinnacle.

When we installed it for dd1 we didn't lower tether rear facing and when I took it to get inspected the technician did it for me and said it was recommended.

We do have captain seats in the 2nd row. Both have the top tether on the back of the seat and the middle seat in the third row has one as well...but that's only for forward facing.

As an aside, although I'm sure I'll come back to this thread for the car seat info, how do you like the Acadia? We are looking into leasing a new car in the next 6 mos and this is at the top of my list. I need more room with #3 on the way. Let me know your thoughts!

Love this car, but my next car I want is a Yukon or Yukon XL. With the XL you can have the third row up but still have a full size trunk.

We have captain seats which I love. But for a third you'd have to have the third row up with dd1 in the middle. Then there's not much trunk space.

GMC Acadia rear facing tether

You're talking about lower anchors, not tethers. Chat Icon the tether is the top strap that you use for foward facing only,

Britax no longer allows for rear facing tethering, and GM doesn't allow at all.

Using lower anchors instead of the seat belt to install for rear facing is a matter of what you can get a safe install with. They are both equally as safe when used properly. When reAR facing, most parents use the lower anchors as it does tend to be easier in the vast majority of vehicles.

We are looking at the Yukon too but I'm trying to keep costs down with the 3rd baby on the way. Maybe in a few years we will upgrade to the Yukon.

For trunk space with the third row up, can you still fit in a (double) stroller or is it too tight? That's really the only think I have in the trunk daily. How many does the car actually fit? I'd love to have the 5 of us and my parents once in a while but I'm not sure that would actually work - 4 adults, 3 kids? Also, are there video screens for the kids?

Ok, I'm done harassing you! Chat Icon

Def talking about lower tether. The long strap.

The anchors we use the latch.
