Benefits of keeping a baby rear-facing

Now that Brendan is almost a year old and meets the weight requirements for forward facing I was getting ready to turn his car seat around until I watched this video . It shows crash test videos of rear facing vs. forward facing. There's quite a dramatic difference. I didn't realize you could keep them rear facing for so long. I just checked and in my marathon he can stay rear facing until 33 lbs. I'm not turning him around any time soon!

I didn't turn my daughter around until she was 22 months after seeing the same info -- and she is tall. People worry about their feet hitting the back of the seat, but they are perfectly comfy with legs bent.

Interesting don't think I'll be in a rush to turn DD around.

I'm not turning Marron around anytime soon either. Just one observation -- in the forward facing crash test, it looks like the seat is not installed very tightly and also like the child is not buckled very tightly. However, I had the State Troopers install her infant seat and they explained the physics of how the rear facing seat protects better, and that had me sold! This video is just an added reminder for me. Thanks for it.

Thanks for the post. I was looking forward to turning DD around as soon as she turns a year and 20 pounds so I could see her. Not anymore. She'll be facing the back for years to come. Thanks again.

I think so too.

I have a marathon too, and I am in no rush to change her seat to forward position.

I still have to get her big girl seat checked out thoughChat Icon
