Early Intervention question

My son was evaluated a few months ago for speech and PT and didn't qualify for either. But I just got 2 bills, totaling $600 for these evaluations. I was told everything with EI was free, but apparently the provider I picked was out of network. I guess I was stupid not to check this? When I met with the coordinator and she had me pick a provider, she never mentioned I should check with my insurance. Ugh, I'm so annoyed about this. I have really great insurance too.

Did anyone else have to pay for evaluations or anything with EI?

Thanks.

Re: Early Intervention question

I was never charged. They never even asked me for insurance info cause they told me no need to go through insurance cause there will be no fee. I just want to add im OOS but I dont think this should make a difference.

Re: Early Intervention question

That does not seem right. I would call your insurance provider and investigate further along with whoever did the evaluation.

No, you should have not been billed anything, EI evaluations are supposed to be free. They will ask for your insurance information to try to offset the cost for the county but you should not be paying anything OOP. I would def call your service coordinator if you rec'd a bill.

Agreed. I got statements from my insurance telling what was covered and what wasn't for whatever the provider was attempting to collect but I never got any actual bills.

Thank you everyone. I am feeling hopeful that we don't owe this like you are all saying.

I didn't get any actual bills yet, just the statements from Insurance telling me what is owed. They claim we owe it because the provider was out of network. I'm waiting to hear back from the service coordinator.

Ok that makes sense, the EOB from the insurance is not a bill- I got those all the time because EI would bill my insurance for speech, but insurance would show them as out of network.. I never got a bill

And this is why I never gave my insurance information for EI. A lot of people don't know that you don't have to give it if you don't want to.

Early Intervention question

If I remember correctly same thing happened to me but I didn't have to pay it. The county picks it up. EI services are free.
