NYC Marathon
Anyone BTDT? I'm finally taking the plunge after backing out a few years ago & it is starting to feel real. Any insight or suggestions? I am going to go slow and my only goal is to finish without getting injured.
THANKS!

Re: NYC Marathon
Do you know the course well? I love it!
Hmm words of advice.
If you have to pee, don't wait to do it until you enter Manhattan. The portapotties that are right off the Queensboro Bridge had crazy lines when I got there. I was so glad I went back on Brooklyn and Queens.
Can you wear your name on your shirt? I got so many boosts from people shouting my name. It's the same with every race but the crowds are legit for this one.
I'll try to think of some other advice! I had a goal time in mind at the time (4 hours) so I ran the last 20 miles as a training run a few weeks before so I knew what to expect. There isn't really much surprises except all of the bridges HURT, especially Queensboro. Such steep uphills!
I'm so jealous! I still can't run after a pregnancy related injury but hoping to do 9+1 again next year and race in 2018 again.

Re: NYC Marathon
thanks ladies...i'm mostly concerned with what to do with the hours between my transportation and start...my corral goes at 11, but i'll likely have to take a very early bus or ferry (i didn't pick in time and have to wait for bib pick up to see which option they'll give me) :/ also, i'm running it by myself so no one to hang out with for an hour is cool...four hours? not so much :/
Thanks

I am so jealous I was supposed to run this year but can't due to injury and timing etc.... I think rachelk covered it all and most of all try to have fun I know 26 miles lol. It's rough but worth the experience.

Get in line for the portapotties, when you finish, get back in line That's basically how I spent my time before my race.
I thought I'd have a ton of time just sitting there and I didn't. I actually ended up missing the start of my corral. It does go by fast.

Re: NYC Marathon
Thanks for the advice. They gave me the 8:30 ferry so i took the lirr to penn, 1 to whitehall and ferry to start. it went really quickly (transportation - not marathon)
I felt so emotional throughout the entire marathon. It was one of the most exciting events in my life. I finished at 5:18 -- though I was on course to finish at 5 with the pacers. Unfortunately, I felt tight at 21.5 and had to walk most of 24 - 25.
Thrilled to have completed it and thankful that I was not seriously injured

Re: NYC Marathon
joining nyrr as a member in january and running 9 races plus 1 volunteer shift will give you guaranteed (not free) entry to the 2018 marathon
you could get in if you choose to run with a charity - but you have to fund-raise for them.
there's also a lottery - though not sure when it is held
