Hair color advice please

I have not dyed my hair in almost 10 years and need some advice. I have brown hair and about 20% is gray. I just want my current color to be richer and have shinier hair. I don’t care if I cover the grays or not. I’m not good at hair maintenance and I hate the look of roots growing in. I was thinking semi-permanent color (something that washes out)? Do I need to go a salon? Can I get away with a box color? Any advice, opinions will be greatly appreciated.

I have dark brown hair & very grey/white roots. I used to go to the salon every six weeks cuz I hate the white, it's so noticeable...but it was getting so expensive. I use Clairol Excellence cream box dye & I really like it. It covers all the gray & leaves my hair shiny. I use it about every 5-6 weeks to cover my roots.

Yes I would at least have a consultation at a salon. Most store bought semi permanents don't realllllllllly wash out and so many times ibhave to color corrections at my salon which end up costing more money
