Anyone have a Ped who does flu shots without charging copay?
I'm just curious, I'm in Lindenhurst. I have 3 kids 100% covered for flu shots, but the ped charges a dr visit that I have to pay copay for each kid. I was ready to just do it like every year but I just had to pay 3 copays yesterday for second time in month bc my 1 kid had a cough but my 2 well ones I was told need to retest for strep before they can get flu shot next week. I understand that, but now I'm a bit put off by having to pay it all again triple in a few days when they get shots.

Mine only charges a copay if your insurance has a copay for flu shots.

I think it depends on your insurance.

Re: Anyone have a Ped who does flu shots without charging copay?
Flu shots (and other vaccines) are required by law to be covered by insurance without a copay.
That being said, a lot of peds require that a dr checks the child for a cold, ear infection, sore throat, fever, etc., before giving the flu shot. And that is why they charge the copay. It's annoying! (Especially b/c this is only their policy for flu shots and not for other vaccines...)

That is exactly it. My insurance says the shots are all covered but my dr office is billing a dr visit. I'm a little irritated considering 2 of my kids were rechecked for strep yesterday bc they had it 2 weeks ago so now in a few days I have to pay again fir them to be examined before the flu shot.

We go to pediatric immediate care. They have a lindy office and a smithtown office. We always travel to smithtown (we live in lindy and don't like the lindy office) and we've never been charged a copay for the flu shots

Oh yeah, then that is BS. Especially since at my Dr office you aren't even seen by a dr to get the flu shot. The RN does it and she doesn't check them for anything....just gives the shot. I dont' think we have a copay though- DH took her the last 2 times she got a flu shot so I have to ask him but I don't think so

My kids had an appointment at our ped's "flu clinic" and we weren't charged a copay.
They do charge a copay though for kids under three since they give them a brief exam prior to the shot

Re: Anyone have a Ped who does flu shots without charging copay?
Do you think it should be fine to take them to any pediatric place to do it? I'm kind of really annoyed about this. I called and was told the nurse doesn't do it, and I am responsible for the copay per kid. For three kids in one DR visit.

Re: Anyone have a Ped who does flu shots without charging copay?
I'm looking to call different peds this afternoon. So I had a different doctor at the practice 2 weeks ago say at the kids re-check fir strep which they took antibiotics for, they could get flu shots then. The dr yesterday said they need their cultures taken first and have to come back another day for flu shots. I wouldn't care if my visit was 100% covered like my policy is for flu shots, but shelling out $270 between copays in one month for these visits are a lot!

Pediatric immediate care where i take my 3, i know they get a lot of kids outside of their practice going there for flu shots. They are also an urgent care. But their smithtown office advertises that they offer free flu shots. So i am sure if you call the Lindy office yoy'd be able to bring them in just for the shots.

Thanks. I called, and the Lindenhurst office said the copays are charged. The Smithtown one does not because the nurse does it. I have a 3 year old and two 5 year olds.

The smithtown office is much nicer which is why we go there. If you can't find anywhere closer I would definitely take the ride out there. Paying 3 copays is insane! I have a 4 year old and two 6 year olds :)

They do flu shots for kids there? I didn't know. Like I can get CVS, but I thought it was only adults.

I don't know if the do kids, but I got mine at a cvs minute clinic without paying anything since the shot is covered by insurance.

No charge for us. A nurse administers them.

Re: Anyone have a Ped who does flu shots without charging copay?
Thanks. I'm going to be looking into changing pediatricians in the next couple months. I'm just fed up with the billing. I understand sometimes I have to pay 3 copays, but this is just ridiculous. It's legal, but still it's pretty crappy to do.
This is where I was irritated too because my wellness visits that never require a copay was charged a copay for some test but just one of my sons because he passed it or failed it, I'm not sure, and two days later had to pay two copays for checking their arms for 30 seconds for TB readings.

My pediatrician has had several days of flu shot clinics. You don't see the doctor at all -- vaccines are administered by the nurses. No copay. I was fortunate enough that it worked out time wise that she just got hers at a wellness visit.

We have an "administrative fee" if you come in not during an otherwise-scheduled appt.
