Thanksgiving party at school

DS is in PreK and next week he's having a party for Thanksgiving. I just got a note asking to bring in an item. It also said that if we decide to send in goody bags there's X number of kids in the class. I've never heard of goody bags for a Thanksgiving party. Does anyone have any suggestions on what to get??

Re: Thanksgiving party at school

Sorry but no. Goody bags for Thanksgiving?
What's next? .sending in gifts for the whole class on President's Day?
I only send in stuff for her classmates on Valentines Day.
Nobody wants more junk sent home anyway. Believe me.

Thanksgiving is not a gift giving holiday like Christmas or Valentines Day where you give out Valentines and little treats, or Halloween where you give candy.

I think it's cute.

I'm sure it's not mandatory.

Get a box of pretzels,Pirates booty Rex from bjs. Clear bags in the dollar store

My kids schools here are no parties. Treats. Goody bags. Cupcakes etc etc. I'm jealous

Yeah, that's nice but I'd be skipping the goody bags. I send in small bags for the kids on Halloween and valentines. That's it. Enough is enough with the stuff, who needs it? and this unspoken competition among parents.

I agree...and it's the complete opposite of what Thanksgiving is. Being grateful for what you have.

Not to mention all the candy, treats, trinkets we already have floating around the house from Halloween, Christmas, etc already floating around the house.

Thanks for the feedback everyone! I found it a little ridiculous also. I decided that if I go to a target this weekend I'll look in the dollar section for something, but I'm not gonna go out of my way to find something.

That note might not necessarily been encouraging sending home goody bags. It's possible it was just to clarify the number of kids in the class. Maybe a parent sent in goody bags for Halloween but didn't send in enough. I don't think anyone expects thanksgiving goody bags.

Yes I took it that way as well.

I just think Thanksgiving favors are over the top and not necessary even a little, so if I were the OP I wouldn't even bother spending the money or time

In my children's day care there are what I call "over achieving moms." Moms who work full time and still have the time to make goody bags for every holiday party. Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Needless to say, I'm not one of those moms.

Yes, lots of kids hand out goody bags for every holiday and lots of kids don't. Either way you go, is fine.
