Amazon echo dot

Can someone confirm for me that you can use the amazon echo dot without having the regular amazon echo.

i looked into this before i put the echo on my list this year.
you can use the dot without a regular echo. it will do everything the echo does.
the sounds quality isn't as good though from what they say. I know i will be playing music a lot on mine so i opted for the full size.

I just got both

Echo for DH to use as a music speaker and all added features and the dot for myself to keep in the kitchen. For me, it'll do things like give me recipes and convert sizes for me.

I got the Echo for $139 and Dot $39 during cyber sales

WE have both. We use the dot in the bathroom mainly to play music, but when I think of something I need for the grocery store it's good to have too.

The regular echo we have in the kitchen and I use it all the time. We got one for my parents and my mom likes to listen to music or audio books while she's cooking.

Yes, but you need a bluetooth speaker if you want good sound. It is basically the top half of the echo without the good speaker. Its the same thing with a far inferior speaker.

Thanks for the input I was going to give them out as gifts to some people who probably don't have the regular one.

On the fence if I should just return them (I got them on sale during cyber monday)

We have 2 Dots and we love them! (Never owned the original one) They come in handy so often... I wouldn't return them if I were you.
I got one for my Dad as a gift this year. Perfect for all ages :)

We have original Echo and use it in our kitchen and love it. We just ordered the Dot to keep in our bedroom. We use it for music, news, books on tape, our shopping list, timer, etc. We love it!

we just got a dot, and we ordered the Echo for Xmas and a few other dots. My husband also wants to change out the outlets so Alexa can turn light's on and off and other things as well. We didn't fully set it up yet, just got it last week, but she found a song to play and it sounded great on the dot.

We set up our dot last night and the sound is actually pretty good! I was impressed for such a small device.
