Moving back to NY
Has anyone moved back to NY after being away for a long period of time. Did you have a hard time settling back in? I'm thinking about moving back & my main reason is family.

Re: Moving back to NY
i did...we lived in florida for 5 years and thought we'd be there forever, but after the birth of our son, we realized it made more sense to be closer to family and came back home. it was an adjustment, but it was nice to have good food again :)
we have a different life than the one we lived when we were away from family, but it is much better for our children and our elderly parents.
i think the biggest adjustment is not having our own time anymore -- when we lived away from family, we didn't have the obligations of seeing them weekly, so we spoke on the phone more and enjoyed their visits every few months -- now we have sunday dinner each week and speak on the phone less
we weren't able to sell our house b/c of the market back then, so we've used a real estate management company to keep it rented.
if you think that you need to be around family, the move will be difficult, but worth it.

Re: Moving back to NY
I very rarely post but wanted you to know it is an adjustment - I lived in California for 12 years and moved back mainly for family. I really miss the weather in Cali but happy I came home - although I have to agree that your time is not your own anymore now with family closer and they can be all up in your business but right now I wouldn't trade it for anything :) Best of luck to you !

Moving back to NY
I moved back to NY after living in Maryland for 25 years - through college, first jobs, marriage, having my daughters and stayed even after I had gotten divorced. I built a true life in Maryland/loved everything about MD. I moved back because I realized that my daughters (8 and 10 at the time) were missing out on so much family time that I didn't think it was fair to them not to have aunts, uncles, cousins, grandparents around all of the time. Even though, I met my new husband here, I still say that moving to NY was the best decision for my girls but for me - not so much. It is still an adjustment for me and we've been here for 6 years.
