Tough crowd lol. I dont mind them

Chit chat etc and let the girl open her cheese grater like we all did.

I don't mind bingo or the timer game

I would skip tp bride.

Something I've seen recently and I guess it saves time is wrapping in clear paper

So bride can hold them up and not have to actually unwrap

Same here. Everyone deserves to have their day if they choose. I don't mind and usually enjoy hanging with my family or friends.

Last shower I enjoyed that there was a make your own mimosa bar. I don't mind some games and definitely think it should be laid back, participate or don't, no pressure.

For my sister's shower we did two games. Guess the movie by well known love quotes. I always like those and if I don't know most I just don't turn it in. I also did a board with a bunch of pics of the engaged couple and had people guess which state each was taken in. People seemed to really enjoy both games and both were low pressure and quick. People were jumping out of their chairs and yelling as we announced the answers lol.

I do hate filling out advice for the bride. I also hate going to a shower where I don't really know anyone and the host isn't helpful in introducing you to anyone or at least suggesting a table, etc.

To echo Alli and PJC - short, brunch food and alcohol. Thats it. Showers are AWFUL.

Also, I enjoy the "unwrapped gifts" so we dont have to sit for hours watching a grown woman open gifts. Also, please dont make us play games.

I always say- showers are the way us women torture each other. . It's like a right of passage and we all torture each other with it and we all hate it- yet we still do it.
I'd rather just send you a gift then sit there for 4 hours and watch you open 100 gifts.

I liked when it was over lol. I know, not helpful

Haha. I agree. I'd love if they didn't have them at all.

I'm thankful that I haven't been to one in ages; they are only common in the US.

So to answer the OP, how about no shower at all Chat Icon .

ETA: I had a shower and I hated it. I specifically asked my mom to not throw a shower and she did. I know that makes me sound ungrateful, and I'm thankful for all the gifts I received, but I would have preferred no shower.

As a guest, I like the idea of "unwrapped gifts" but when it was my turn to be the "new bride" or "new mom" I LOVED unwrapping my gifts and having everything be a surprise. I feel like the unwrapped thing is so boring, like just walking through a store. LOL

One game we did for my best friend everyone seemed to like because it was fast and they could win a bottle of wine. We put a bottle on every table and then read a story of how the soon to be bride and groom met. We included the words "right" and "left" as many times as we could. As the story was read they passed the bottle when we mentioned the direction. It was short and fun. You can google it and get an idea on how to phrase it, but you use their real story.

I got a lot of off my registry and many things that were actually a surprise. How often do you get to open gifts as a grown up?............. Might as well enjoy your shower gifts! Chat Icon

No games, or at least games that don't feel like homework (word searches , letter games , etc).

I like brunch, or any food that might be a little different then traditional catering food.

Mimosa or punch at least .

Cofffee dessert served while gifts being opened esp if there are a lot.

I see a bunch of people said no assigned seating, but I actually prefer by far not having to put any effort into where I sit.

I like bridal showers. I like edible favors or one time we got an umbrella (enjoy the shower) which I loved. One time we all had to bring recipe cards and they made a cook book for the bride. Alcohol is a must. Have the bride sit somewhere that everyone can see her open the gifts. Lots of times they sit and people surround the bride so only the 10 people in the front see everything. The rest of us twiddle our thumbs because we can't see. Do not see the need for games. I hate the clear wrapping paper. I feel the bride doesn't really look at the gifts then and if I spend my time buying one and wrapping it nicely I want her to look at it and know who it's from. Assigned seating is also a must. Makes it much easier than hunting with your family/friends for seats together.

I like when the bride is happy :)

I don't think anything needs to be traditional anymore, just do what she would like.

But definitely serve alcohol :)

Re: Share what you liked

I went to one at the Old Field Club and it was a brunch buffet, which I liked better than the courses of bad salad and penne ala vodka. There was a massive fresh fruit and cheese spread akin to a wedding cocktail hour (yum) with an open coffee station and a beautiful citrus punch in mason jars, french toast and berry compote, etc.

I like when I can pick my seat. I went to one this summer where there were table arrangements and ended up squeezed in with a bunch of the MOG's weird old church lady friends - so awkward.

I always get a kick out of the gift bingo thing. Makes watching the present-opening less boring...
