The new administration has closed any actionable way to share comments with the White House...plus other important items.
And it turns out that the comment phone line has been shut down for weeks prior to Trump taking office.

I'm curious if the people who say this is nbd have read a history book, ever. Do you think dictators took over in one fell swoop? Lots of small, quiet maneuvers and steps are what has led to EVERY SINGLE fascist regime in history. So please tell me what your line is. What needs to happen for you to be scared?
Well since this is a democratic republic and there are 3 branches of government which Trump only being one of them, I have no fear of him becoming a dictator. Also the max he can serve is only 8 years so again, no fear for a dictatorship.
If people really read what he wants to do it's take away power from the federal government and give it back to the states, where it belongs.
UGH. Because Congress is totally on the peoples side.
Germany was a democracy in 1930. And in 1939 millions of Jews began being rounded up and killed.
Look. Am I saying that's going to happen here? probably not. But why ignore that the man in power is taking actionable steps to limit democracy? Like, why ignore that?
I don't find him limiting democracy at all. I'm not going to argue a Hitler analogy because I don't see a comparison at all. If I ever was going to do a comparison it would have been to FDR who stayed longer that 8 years (which is why term limits were placed) and sent the Japanese to concentration camps. He was a democrat. Times change and just how the government saw fault with FDR being president for so long and corrected that going forward, they will correct whatever Trum
The epitome of privilege is being able to take a wait and see approach when others' rights and safety and even their lives are at risk.
Sorry, but that's gross.
Actually. Not sorry.
He hasn't done anything yet to take away anyone's rights. If he does then I will respond accordingly.
I have said it many many times that I am NOT pro Trump, I am a Republican. If he does something that is taking way American's rights then I would gladly say so. I have not seen that yet (with the exception of the Secretary of Education and I voiced my concerns about that) and I am not going to jump on a bandwagon because of something that may happen. My issue is that posts like this one from the op is sensationalizing things that just aren't true. Taking away a phone number is not censorship and to think that is is just ridiculous. Saying that there are gag orders being issues, isn't the truth. They are limiting who can speak to the press. Just like every business does and the US Government is like a big business.
I AM the OP.
Closing the investigation into Flint takes away their right to clean water. Repealing the ACA takes away women's rights to pump at work. He has also vowed to look into repealing same-sex marriage legislation. Taking a phone number was just ONE piece of what I posted about, that you seem to be harping on while ignoring the rest. They aren't just limiting who can speak to the PRESS, they are limiting things like what the USDA can share with the PUBLIC - researched funded by TAXPAYER DOLLARS is no longer allowed to be disseminated publicly. THAT IS CENSORSHIP and these things DESERVE to be sensationalized.
The Flint investigation was closed in December. So blame Congress not Trump. He has not taken away ACA yet and wants to replace it so lets see what it is replaced with before we start complaining about what is lost.
The EPA released this statement which was on CBS news:
The EPA, in an official statement, said Monday that the e-mail was aimed at making responses to the press, GAO and Inspector General more efficient, consistent and coordinated. The EPA said officials would still be allowed to talk after they checked in with representatives.
"There is nothing...that restricts conversation between enforcement staff, the press, GAO and the IG and the procedure is consistent with existing agency policies," the statement said.
This is common practice with all large businesses and I'm sure many of the jobs that the majority of people here work for.
He has NO replacement plan for ACA, and he HAS taken measurable steps to start repealing it. If I wait and see, I may very well lose the protection that allows me to pump 3x a day at work as I have an EBF 4 month old. So this one thing DIRECTLY impacts me. I do blame the House for Flint but they did so with the knowledge that they would be supported by the current administration. What about the order he signed today about DAPL?
You keep saying wait and see. I hope for your sake your rights aren't those that you wake up one day to find gone. Asking people to wait and see if their entire lives are going to be impacted severely is unacceptable.

Fair enough, on this point...
http://www.snopes.com/white-house-comment-shutdown/
... In this case, the White House comment line was shut down nearly a week before President Trump took office. On 14 January 2017, the Washington Times reported that the Obama administration had closed down the phone-in comment line:
President Obama is done listening — at least by phone.
The White House comments line, 202-456-1111, is no longer working and apparently hasn’t been operational for weeks. The line is normally staffed by volunteers.
Callers to the line hear a recorded message: “The comment line is currently closed, but your comment is important to the president.”
The recorded message advised callers to send comments for the White House via Facebook Messenger. Although President Obama's White House Facebook account had Messenger installed, as of the moment President Trump's does not.
While one could argue that President Trump's administration was slow to pick up the digital reins in the days immediately following his inauguration, it's incorrect to say that he "dismantled" the White House call-in line. It's more accurate to say that the White House call-in comment line was closed at the end of President Obama's term, and the Trump administration did not reinstate it in the first few days of his presidency.

The censorship that is happening right now is frightening. My friend was blocked by Facebook (he calls it Facebook jail) because he posted a Melania meme w some text comparing her to Michelle Obama and someone reported the post. He was unable to post for 30 days just because of a meme he shared.

You will not lose your right to pump. The breastfeeding provision under the ACA provides that if there is a discrepancy between State and Federal Law, the stricter standard will apply.
NYS already has a rather strict breastfeeding at work law (in place long before the ACA).
Also the coverage under the ACA only applies to companies with 50 or more employees and only applies for one year from birth of the child. NYS laws are much stricter.

So what about people who live where there is no state protection? I don't only care about myself.

I believe 49 states have laws protecting various degrees of breastfeeding at work. Some are more strict than others. I don't have time to do all of the legal research right now.

Twenty-eight states protect breastfeeding in the workplace. That means women in almost half the country won't be protected if ACA is repealed. Also - the federal law applies to ALL businesses, those with less than 50 employees have to APPLY for undue hardship if they want to be exempt.
Took me 3 min.

BFing and pumping is just one aspect that I spoke about specifically because I'm a breastfeeding and pumping mother. There is so much at stake here and I'm confused by those who seem okay to wait and see which of our/their/anyone's rights get stripped away.

Congratulations on it taking you 3 minutes - I am not trying to antagonize you - I was trying to quell a fear and point out a common misconception, and mentioned it because YOU specifically mentioned breastfeeding.
That website you pointed to gives a brief layman's breakdown of the breastfeeding laws. I was going to shepardize out the laws and look for recent challenges or in-depth state decisions, but if this satisfies you, great.

I apologize for mistaking the tone - I'm so used to antagonistic responses that I made an assumption. That's on me, and I'm sorry.
I appreciate trying to quell my fears - my job is wonderful and would never take away my pumping rights. But that doesn't change the fact that millions of mothers around the country don't have that luxury and may lose their only protections.

Oh for the love of god...
They didn't stop all communication, they changed their preferred method.
You can go to the public library and use their computers for free if you don't have one. That's what I used to do.
And not everyone lives close to a library.
If people can't get to a library, have an email, have access to a computer, they probably do not have a phone either so the point is mute. Write a letter. There are post offices all over.
An immediate older family of mine, cannot use a computer and cannot write very well if at all. I'm sure there are people out there with similar issues. He does have a phone. There are probably more out there that are the same.
Cutting out calling someone is over the top. And yes, please open a history book and see how dictators develop.

I really would love just one person on here who defends this guy to flat out say "look, I don't give a shit that he hates women and minorities, and that he is slowly chipping away at the tenets of democracy, because he promised to lower my taxes and that's the bottom line for me."
Which, btw for most middle class Americans won't even end up being true!
It's pretty much implied on all the pro-Trump threads. His previous comments aren't really addressed or are ignored by Trumpeters.

But he is the CEO of the Executive branch - and they are his direct employees. Any employer can require that their employees do not speak directly with the media. He has a right to control the agenda of these agencies- even if we don't agree with them- he was elected on that agenda- many Americans agree with his agenda- this is NOT unconstitutional - and it is not Nazism- I disagree with his environmental stance but it nauseates me to hear people compare him to Hitler- I can't stand it- my family died in Auschwitz and to hear people trivialize the gas ovens and compare him to that is very hard to hear.

Actually, all emails and communications with the White House had a cut off date. I know this because I emailed Obama and then was liking around on the page where you can get letters from the President sent for the birth of baby, 100th birthday etc. It's part of the transition. Now, it is in Trumps small hands.

However, we are not talking about that exactly. We are comparing the rise to power and how it is very similar to Hitler's at this point. Yes, it's not Nazism, but there is definitely some Nationalism thrown in there. Call it Facism or whatever, but this is what's happening. You could replace Hitler's name with any dictator (Mugabe, Stalin, Hafiz al-Assad, etc.). It's still the same. It's just that Hitler is well known. The end results of these dictators are death of people directly or indirectly caused by the leaders. Has it happened yet? No, so let's stop it from getting to that point.

What about people that don't work for companies of 50 or more?

Like I commented yesterday - the ACA protection applies to ALL employers regardless of size of business. The only difference is that businesses with less than 50 employers can choose to APPLY for an exemption and then must prove undue hardship.
