We are flying into Dallas and driving south, stopping at different cities for a week, ending up in Houston. Our daughters will be 8 and 4. We want to see as much as we can, because I doubt we will go back, but I am afraid our plans may push them a little too much. Last year we went to Toronto and Niagara Falls, and by mid-week they asked for an afternoon relaxing at the hotel. Here is our very broad projected schedule:
Day 1: Fly into Dallas/Fort Worth. Day 2: Dallas (Arboretum and heritage village) Day 3: Fort Worth (Cowgirl Museum and rodeo) Day 4: Glen Rose (Dinosaur Valley) Day 5: Austin (Hamilton pool and Enchanted Rock) Day 6: San Antonio (The Alamo and RiverWalk) Day 7: Houston (Space Center and Health Museum) Day 8: Fly home
Any suggestions?

Just looking at the end of your trip, it's about 3.5 hours from San Antonio to Houston, to then do a few things there. I've been to Houston dozens of times. The space center is cool, but I've never done the health museum. They have a good zoo, and the children's museum is nice. I would also look into the Ross Perot museum in Dallas.
San Antonio you're fine because there's not much to actually "do" on the river walk. Alamo is a few hours tops.
Can't speak for the other places. Next time I go were doing either Dallas or Austin in addition to Houston.

No problem! Be sure to eat Mexican and bbq at the most hole in the wall places you can find. Also, eat blue bell ice cream-it's the best!!
