Refinishing (staining) your wood floors
Has anyone done this? Wondering the approx cost and process. I imagine we can't be home for a few days.

Re: Refinishing (staining) your wood floors
We did this last year right after we closed on our new house. The prior owners had regular light colored wood and we decided to have them stained a darker deep brown color. I will try to find pics and post to an album, but the whole process took about 4-5 days only because we used 1 person (my dad found him, he did it cheap for us, around $2,300 cash). He did the entire house (Ranch - 1800 sq feet).
Day 1 was stripping the old color, Day 2 and 3 was applying the stain and primer, day 4-5 was drying. The fumes are strong if you opt for oil based polyurethane instead of water.
EDIT: i added some pics of how they turned out to my album..

we did it. We had a company rip up all the carpet in the house (LR, DR, hallways, and 2 bedrooms, and we refinished all the floors a dark walnut color. I think it was about $2200 cash
ETA: If you do it, make sure you have somewhere to stay for a couple of days. The fumes made my eyes burn bad.. we did it in the summertime, and left the windows open all day and all night for 2 days, and stayed at my parent's house a few blocks away. We weren't moved in yet, though, and didn't have anything in the house, so we weren't worried about leaving the windows open

Thanks! Love that color too. We have two little ones so the fumes are a big concern for me. We'd have to find a place to stay.

We did it this summer just our bedroom. One room was $400 cash (don't have large rooms) and I agree stay somewhere I was pregnant but we had to do the floor in our room since we were moving from our old room to make it their nursery. The fume smell sucks!
