Having to go for a D&C after losing a baby at 14 weeks at Good Sam.
The surgical floor takes you right by the maternity ward and nursery so being wheeled up on a gurney you get to see all the babies and pregnant women waiting to give birth. While in the holding room, you get to watch all the women having c-sections being wheeled by into the surgical rooms.
I can so much identify with that. In my first pregnancy, my baby was extremely sick and I was told he would not make it. We went for a second opinion and to get where I needed to be, we had to walk by the maternity floor of a hospital. While I laid for the sono confirming what I already knew, a woman came in with her triplet newborn babies and I heard the women outside saying what cute hands and feet they had, while I starred back at my baby whose hands and feet were partially amputated, among many many other terrible issues. We lost him exactly a week later.

You know, you would think that in this day and age hospitals would be a bit more sensitive to situations like this and maybe have separate areas for those tests and treatments that need to be done for women who are having miscarriages or problems in their pregnancy, rather than making you witness newborns when you are going through something like that. It's really so cruel. I'm sorry you both had to go through such awful traumatic experiences.

Worst Thing That Has Happened To You
Waking up to my dog barking at 3am on a Monday morning and finding 2 people Trying to push their way into the house as I was trying to hold the door shut on the other side calling 911. Thank God for my dog or they would have gotten in.
9/11-- watching my brother cry when he found out his best friend was gone. I'll never forget.

I so very much agree. It's surprising that these days there aren't protocols in place. I did make a complaint to someone at that hospital about some related issues but it never went beyond that.
At the time my sono took place and all this was happening, my dh actually stepped outside and asked that the people admiring the newborns please step away from right outside our door.
So much horrific crap is out of our control... but there's no excuse for human insensitivity.

Re: Worst Thing That Has Happened To You
Multiple miscarriages.
Hearing "There's no longer a heartbeat" the first time was such a shock. I was alone, thinking I would have a routine visit.
But then when I lost the next baby, I was on the exam table having a sonogram a few days before Christmas. We saw the baby had no heartbeat, then actually saw it pass out of my body on the screen- I lost the baby right there. It was horrifying. Then having to pretend everything was normal on Christmas in front of my other two children was so hard. Especially knowing we were going to tell them about the baby on Christmas morning and it was all ripped away without warning just days earlier.

Re: Worst Thing That Has Happened To You
Losing my dad when I was 7 yrs old and losing my mom 10 years ago.
Losing my mom literally shook my world to the point that I could feel my attachment to the planet disappear - I felt like all my life I didn't know it, but was attached to the earth by a string and after she passed, that string was cut and I was left drifting on my own

Worst Thing That Has Happened To You
My father dying - by far the worst thing in my whole life so far 9/11 - at least my father was alive then
If not for my daughter, I am not sure what I would live for after my Dad died. People just don't seem to understand that. It's impossible to describe or explain. But I move on and live the socially correct life. I remember very clearly telling my husband, if anything happens to AJ, I will just die. I mean it. Until that time, no one will notice. I owe that to her.

Losing two uncles in less than 6 months from heart attacks.
Heart issues seem to follow me. They are the cancer of my family.

Re: Worst Thing That Has Happened To You
The worst thing that has happened to me so far is that I had a stroke and the resulting medical issues that have come along with that. However, reading this thread has made me realize how incredibly lucky I truly am, because this is nothing compared to some things you women have been through.

I am very sorry. I can relate to not taking anytime for yourself and being stressed to the max. My youngest has autism and most days I feel like we are just surviving. And yes, I often think about what will happen to him when we get old.
Hell I think about it now, just bringing him to the potty can be a full blown wrestling match and I wonder what will happen as he gets older and stronger. Most days I feel like I got the crap kicked out of me.
I joined a parent support group. It has helped me tremendously. If you haven't done it, I really recommend it. It's been helpful with resources, just bouncing questions off others who get it, and sometimes just to say I've had a ****** week (we meet once per month).
Just wanted to tell you, you are not alone. I

Worst Thing That Has Happened To You
The death of my father as a child is by far the worst thing to happen to me. As an adult the worst thing is my struggle with infertility. It has been a rough ride.
I read each of your stories and am so sorry for what you all have been through. Life is so unfair.

Re: Worst Thing That Has Happened To You
The day my older brother was murdered and having to go through a long, torturous trial.
My twin brother having a diabetic seizure and being in a coma for a couple of months. Now seeing him in a vegetative state in a nursing home. It's been so hard on my parents and I feel so sad for what they've been through.
