Ez pass - money in account question
I just started using this so new to it. We have $13 left on our account. We will be going through tolls tomorrow. What happens if tolls exceed the money in account? I just went on to add $25 but it says it wont be available for tolls for 48 hours. Is there a fee for going through a toll with not enough money in account?

Ez pass - money in account question
The credit card automatically recharges when it gets to Zero. The sign will just read low balance & recharge. Do you have it on automatically charge even if you added extra money?

Re: Ez pass - money in account question
I better check into this. From what I read, I got the impression, if it doesnt have enough money in account, there is a violation. Like I said, I sm so new to this. I just want to avoid extra charges

Do you have a credit/debit card on file? That's what we do so they automatically replenish the account when it gets low.

Yes. I have credit card on file. Im just wondering what happens if I use more before it got to the point to replenish. I have $13 on it. I think at $10 it gets replenished. Will be using a bunch of tolls today. I just added money to it myself but it says it wont be available for tolls for 48 hours. So going through tolls back and forth I wont have enough in there in time.

Re: Ez pass - money in account question
You will not get violation. Only way you would is if you didn't have credit card on file & it ran out. As soon as it it's $10, it will replenish. No need to panic. You may see low balance as you pass through but that's all

It will just replenish using the card in file. I have used it for years. You won't get a violation.

Ok. Thank you. I feel like behind the times being a new user of this.
Does everyone keep a minimum in there or do you put, lets say $100 in there?

Ez pass - money in account question
We've driven hundreds of miles with numerous tolls and low balances and have never gotten a violation. We've had ours for well over a decade.
ETA: ours just automatically recharges. I think our automatic recharge is $50.

Re: Ez pass - money in account question
It depends on how your account is set up. You can get a fine for going through EZ Pass with not enough money in your account. As I know from experience!
ETA: If you have it set up to automatically replenish, you might still get the violation, but you can fight it. I think the first time is just a warning anyway.
ETAA: We went through a cashless toll (where they send you a bill) and didn't have enough money on our EZ Pass, so we stuck it in the glove compartment in the little slip and STILL got a violation because it wasn't in all the way and registered as using EZ pass.

Ez pass - money in account question
I don't really know all the ins and outs of using ez-pass, but we don't ever "replenish" ours. We have a credit card on file and I guess it just automatically replenishes when it reaches a certain dollar amount. If you have a credit card attached to yours, I think you'll be fine

Re: Ez pass - money in account question
I go to the city pretty frequently and use an EZ Pass. It'll just saw "low balance" and go ahead and use it. I've ended up having a negative balance for a day while it replenishes, no issues with violations and no issues at the gate. The only time I ever had an issue was when something happened with the bank account and it didn't replenish for weeks. I used it after and got stuck at the ez pass thing and a cop came and told me that I needed to check the website because our EZ Pass was showing up as not having any funds. It was more embarrassing than anything but I still didn't get a violation. I paid him cash and kept on moving through.

Re: Ez pass - money in account question
It will replenish automatically if you have it set up too and the amount is based how often you are using it. When I was using it everyday I had a higher replenish amount it was over $100 when I stopped they lowered it right now I think it automatically does $25.

There is a minimum they replenish on - I think 25.00.
If they see that you using it all in a certain time period they will send you an email to let you know that they raised the minimum limit.
