Their superintendent is fantastic and has been making changes to benefit the students. They are becoming the district other districts are modeling themselves after. For example, my district rearranged a required program that was during recess a couple of times a week because Pat Med had doubled recess time for their students based on research. I have a friend who teaches there that is very happy.

I don't know anything about the area which is why I'm looking for feedback. We keep finding houses in our budget there but don't know the area or the reputation of the schools. Don't want to buy in the area and find out we made a horrible mistake.

Several people that work in the same district that I do live in Pat-Med. They rave about it. Rave. All that was said about the superintendent and more.

It isn't the best district but it's def. not the worst. and it's only going to get better and better. with all the changes in patchogue and such a thriving main street... i'd totally move there. i think the district will turn around for the better.

This.
I am so jealous of their super.
He is so anti state testing and so pro whole child approach. He is a pioneer IMO.
I'd love to send my daughter to school there

It's a district that a lot of late twenties and early 30's are buying in. I know a lot of people with small kids who has purchased in Pat/Med or they are trying to right now. PThe school district has a lot of good publicity lately because of their superintendent who is anti state test and is pro recess.

I live here and also grew up here. Way back when it was fine and I think I turned out ok and hold a professional job, etc. Now...it's just AWESOME! Our Superintedent it top-notch, the teachers are amazing, incredible sports, etc. My 8-year old is thriving! There is an incredible sense of community here. Sure, you'll have your "mixed" bag of people, but that's almost anywhere.

Ps. We've had quite a few "celebrities" come from our district, look for articles under Pat-Med Hall of Fame. I myself graduated with Kevin Connolly from the show Entourage.

The area was one we considered and looked at MANY houses. We found a house we LOVED but ultimately walked away because of how close it was to the water. I was 27 when we were looking 2 years ago and had no reservations. I bought in port Jeff station and live in comsewogue district. We are very happy here, many young couples in my area moving in and budget is similar. The family that bought across from us, one of them teaches in pat med and is very happy. PM me if you have any questions!

Pat-Med is on a major upswing. If you don't mind a very large district, there's a lot to like. Some of the elementary schools are bilingual, where they actually teach in English and Spanish, so one day there will basically be no English spoken, and the next all English - from what I understand, I could be mistaken, but they are definitely bilingual. Whether that's a pro or con is a personal opinion.

Of course they have their share of issues, but you're going to find that everywhere. At it's really at the middle/high school level where those issues arise. And of course there are nicer areas and some not so great areas to live.

Between the Superintendent and new Athletic Director, there are going to be many positive changes for the children in those schools.

The bilingual program is in a few elementary schools but it is optional, it's not the whole school.

Re: Pat-Med schools and area

I know this is an old post but seriously thinking of buying a home. It would be Cannan Elementary school. I am currently in Sachem and I love the school we are in. My daughter is in a 12:1:1 class so my question is how is there special education programs?? My DD receives Ot, Pt, and speech. She is in 2nd grade. Does Cannan have a 12:1:1?
I just want to make sure she would get great services just as Sachem has given her through the years. I am scared to move her but rather have a place to call home than live in an apartment.
