New Orleans - Hotel recommendations please
Nothing crazy expensive or fancy. Just something nice, in a great location.
Thanks!

New Orleans - Hotel recommendations please
we stayed at the Hyatt in the french quarter and were happy with it. decent location, close to bourbon but didn't get the noise.
However, we did it through Hotwire. We took one of their deals in the french quarter, it was a 4 1/2 star deal at $171 a night at the time and turned out to be the Hyatt.

Hotel Marais. Around the corner from bourbon street. Really quiet and the. 50 ft you're in the middle of all the action.

New Orleans - Hotel recommendations please
We want to go but heard there was a lot of crime. Should we be concerned if we go?

The main tourist areas are fine. I wouldn't go wandering down dark alleys or desolate streets, but I wouldn't do that in any city. Just like NY, Chicago, DC, you just have to be smart and use common sense/ It's not any more unsafe than anywhere else.

Thank you for this. We're taking our kids 10 and 17 if we go and just were not sure due to mixed reviews.

It's fine. I remember we had a sales meeting booked in Chicago and my boss was all up in arms that it's the murder capital of the world, it's not safe, etc. Well turns out it was beautiful, I loved it, and I felt safer there than in NYC to be honest. The places we were were totally safe. It's the same in NOLA.

I completely agree with this. It's as unsafe as any big city, including New York City. I've been to New Orleans at least 6 times and have never felt unsafe or uneasy walking around. Just be smart travelers.

there are areas to go and areas not to go, both at night and during the day. I found there was significantly more panhandling and they were more aggressive in NOLA than NY, totally able to deal with it, its just there.
Also, where NY seems to always have people on the street at all times of night, NOLA if you go a few blocks off the touristy block, you can be pretty alone.
We went about 12 years ago, and again 2 years ago and had a great trip, both without kids. Don't only spend your time on Bourbon street, there is so much more and better things about the city.

I personally thought Bourbon street was a filthy gross dump and the worst part of NOLA to be honest.....
